Chapter 39 - Chapter Thirty-Nine

Chioma and her group weaved through the throngs of people filling the bustling Saturday morning market. Although Daniel had suggested going to the mall first, Chioma and Chisom insisted on taking a leisurely stroll at Wuse Market, located in the northwestern part of Abuja Metropolis. The market was renowned as the city's primary marketplace and attracted numerous shoppers. The vibrant atmosphere buzzed with activity as shoppers bartered and vendors hawked their wares. The market was a sensory overload, a medley of sights, sounds, and smells.

After exploring the market, they made their way to a luxurious shopping mall in the city. Today, being Saturday, was the perfect day for shopping and relaxation. Wide smiles stretched across their faces as they ascended the shallow steps into the cool embrace of the mall.

It had been quite a while since Chioma had felt the refreshing caress of cool air-conditioning on her hot and sweaty face. Aside from banks and other high-end establishments, such moments of cool respite were rare for Chioma, reserved for visits to upscale areas. Consequently, she relished the pleasant sensation of the cool air-conditioning, and she was certain that Chisom felt the same. Anyone in their inexpensive shoes would appreciate it too.

With a rumble and a sigh, the escalator carried them up to the first floor. Stepping off, they found themselves in the main restaurant area. Unlike the bustling first-class section on the other side of the mall, this part was calm, with only a few scattered tables occupied. They found a comfortable spot by the window and placed their orders with a friendly waiter. As they waited for their food, conversation flowed easily between them, punctuated by bursts of laughter. Their eyes would occasionally dart towards the kitchen, their growing hunger evident in their animated chatter.

As they began to savour their meals, Chisom chuckled, saying, 'Now that you've ended things with your cheating girlfriend, big brother Daniel, maybe it's time for someone new.'

Daniel glanced at Chioma, but she averted her gaze, not wanting to meet his eyes.

'I wish you could give me a step-by-step guide on finding a good girl like Chioma,' Daniel admitted earnestly.

'I've already told you, Chioma is off the market and has no room for you. But don't worry, you still have a chance to find your soulmate,' Chisom sighed. 'Maybe sooner or later, you'll stumble upon her.'

Andrew chimed in, unable to contain his amusement. 'Oh, you're a genius... I'm proud of my girlfriend,' he chuckled. 'Are you absolutely certain that your not-so-handsome brother will find a girlfriend?' Andrew teased, eliciting laughter from the group.

'Now you've made me feel terrible, Andrew. I shouldn't have treated you to this meal that you'll never have for the rest of your life,' Daniel retorted, not really offended. 'Perhaps you should pay for your own meal.'

'And what about yours? Maybe we should make a sneaky exit after we finish eating, so we won't have to pay for anything,' Andrew suggested, chuckling.

'For sure, the surveillance cameras will catch you,' Chioma interjected, laughing as she took a bite of her pineapple rice. 'CCTV cameras are installed everywhere,' she added, glancing at the cameras.

Andrew shook his head. 'No, Chioma, I'll be able to outsmart the cameras. But if I get caught, you're in it too.'

'We'll have to think of a better plan to make our getaway without getting caught. After all, they say two heads are better than one,' Daniel remarked, laughing.

'And four heads are better than two,' Chisom chimed in cheerfully. Both she and Chioma were dressed in cosy sweaters and jeans.

In this delightful manner, the four friends continued their lively conversation as they relished their scrumptious meal. When they finished eating, Daniel handed his ATM card to the waiter, who swiftly swiped it in the machine before returning it to him. With their dining experience complete, the group decided to cap off their shopping with a relaxing coffee session. They made their way to a cosy café within the mall, where they indulged in aromatic cups of coffee and continued their cheerful conversation, cherishing the moments of camaraderie and friendship. Eventually, feeling content and satisfied, they bid farewell to the café and concluded their day of shopping and enjoyment, ready to embark on the rest of their weekend adventures.
