CASSIA
"Are you thinking of running away?"
I startled, turning sharply to find Kairos standing casually by the car. I hadn't even heard him approach.
"What?" I snapped, glaring at him. "Can't a girl have a moment to herself anymore?"
Kairos's lips curved into a faint smile. "Maybe if it were some other girl," he said smoothly, "and not someone as calculating as you."
Heat crept into my cheeks, but I said nothing. He wasn't entirely wrong.
I had been thinking about running.
Not just because I wanted to but because I needed answers.
Kairos's sudden appearance only made things worse. He still wasn't telling me anything I needed to know, and as far as I was concerned, I deserved the truth. To know who had sold me out, and why.
Whoever it was had something to do with the ring I saw before I passed out. The same ring my father had given me.
If I could get to it, I could confront Kairos properly. He had connections now. He would know something.
But escaping wasn't that simple.
