My plans were set.
Even though Kairos had been watching me closely, suspicion lingering in every glance he gave, I was determined.
I was leaving today.
I stood by the dining table, a small smile playing on my lips as Kairos stepped into the living room. He paused at the last step, his eyes sweeping across the space before settling on me.
"What are you doing up?" he asked.
I gave a casual shrug, lifting the mug of coffee in my hand. "Coffee," I replied, taking a sip.
Kairos blinked, still frowning as he watched me.
"What would you like for breakfast?" I asked in a light voice, pushing away from the table. "Pancakes? Waffles? Or maybe a full Italian breakfast?"
"What?" he murmured, clearly thrown off.
He pulled a hand from his pocket, brushing his fingers along his chin, his gaze narrowing with suspicion as it remained fixed on me.
My heart pounded, and the cup in my hands trembled slightly. I pressed my lips together, forcing my smile to stay in place.
