Chapter 33 - Chapter 33. Mera's journey (ii)

The volcanic winds howled across the cliffs as Mera climbed higher, her boots kicking up ash with every step. Firael ran ahead, tail flames lighting the path through the dim morning haze.

Below her, the sprawling town of Ignivar lay quiet, the streets empty save for scattered debris from some unknown disturbance. Smoke still drifted faintly from the northern district.

Mera's amber eyes narrowed. Something had happened here recently—she could feel the residual energy in the air.

"Firael," she whispered, "stay alert. Something's not right."

The fox-like Pokémon crouched, tail bristling, sensing the disturbance.

As they descended toward the outskirts of the town, Mera noticed strange markings in the ash and rubble. Burned patches of ground and scorched stone were scattered along the streets. Some areas looked as if the earth itself had been torn apart.

Her heart sank.

Team Umber… she thought. They've been here.

Mera had encountered fragments of their operations before—vague hints, whispers from terrified witnesses, and signs of powerful Pokémon used to enforce their schemes. But this… this was different.

She stepped carefully over a broken streetlamp and crouched beside a scorched crater. Small shards of obsidian-like stone jutted out from the ground.

"This… this is recent," she murmured. "And not natural."

Firael sniffed the air and growled softly. Its flames licked the surrounding rubble, casting eerie shadows.

Mera followed the fox Pokémon to the edge of the town, where she found a faint trail leading toward the mountains beyond. The earth had been disturbed in a perfect line, as if something enormous had been dragged along it.

Her heart raced.

The titan.

She didn't know its name, but she could sense the immense power lingering in the direction of the trail. Team Umber had moved it—taken it from the underground ruins—and now it was somewhere beyond the mountains.

Mera clenched her fists.

"I don't know what you're planning, but I'm not letting it happen," she said.

Firael's flames roared higher in agreement.

As she followed the trail, Mera recalled everything she had endured on her journey—every challenge, every Pokémon she had trained with, every moment of doubt she had overcome.

It had all led to this moment.

The path ahead was dangerous, and she was about to walk straight into Team Umber's shadow. But Mera knew one thing: she was ready.

She adjusted her bag, inhaled deeply, and began her trek toward the mountains, the distant glow of Ignivar fading behind her.

Somewhere in the clouds above, the massive aircraft carrying the titan disappeared into the horizon.

But Mera didn't need to see it to know where it had gone.

Her journey had only just begun.

And the journey continues...
