âMy heart leapt into my throat when I noticed the warm fabric draped around my shoulders, whatever remained of sleep dissipating in an instant.
â"Who gave me a blanket?" My skin crawled with the knowledge that another one of the lycans had been here while I was knocked out. The memory of the nuts they shoved down my throat snapped in my mind. What else had been done to me? Why didn't I wake up?
â"Because I didn't let you," the Core whispered, my dread only rising.
â"If I had a knife, I would rip you out myself." Hate bubbled in my chest.
âShe had promised she would never let them hurt me and just like everyone in my lifeâshe lied. And how stupid was I to believe some glowing stone?
â"You are not foolish, Rora."
â"Don't you dare call me that!" I wish I could have screamed it. "You have no right!"
