The howling stopped abruptly and I figured the mangy mutt had finally tired itself out, which for it was for the best. The accumulated rage bled out of my body as my claws retracted and my jaws unclenched, leaving behind only the familiar ache of tension I'd been carrying for hours.
But one of these days, I was putting that thing down permanently.
