The men in uniform came for me the moment I finished dressing. I had just enough time to rain kisses on Cheese—even if his sad eyes followed me as I trailed behind the gammas. I had pulled on the training garb, but the black spandex clung uncomfortably to my bony form. My cheeks heated at every squeak of the suit as I moved through the building. We took an elevator up through unfamiliar hallways, the air between us feeling as stifled as the prison clinging to my skin.
We came to a stop soon enough, and the moment I stepped out, it felt like a whole new world.
The early morning sun refracted through the glass panels overhead. I could not help but stare at the beauty of the plane I now tread. The gammas did not break their stride, so I had no choice but to follow them toward the unknown. We approached a mirrored door which they opened for me, gesturing for my entrance.
