Chapter 176 - playing the long game

Victor rushed toward her with a speed that left no room for escape. His hand closed around her arm like a vise, yanking her back against the cold stone pillar she was already bound to. The ropes bit deeper into her wrists as he pressed his body flush against hers, trapping her completely.

"Where do you think you're going?" he snarled, his breath hot against her cheek.

Arabella twisted in his grip, her voice sharp with defiance even as fear clawed at her throat. "Let me go, Victor. Enzo is not going to let you walk away if you do anything to me."

That name again. Enzo this. Enzo that. The mere sound of it scraped against something raw inside Victor's chest, twisting the anger already boiling there into something darker. Why did it still cut so deep? Why did every mention of that man make the claim he was trying to stake feel weaker?
