Lily led me farther into the wing where the maids and servants stayed. It was my first time truly seeing the servants' quarters since arriving at the palace.
The corridor stretched endlessly ahead, lined with identical wooden doors on either side. Servants moved quietly about their duties, bowing respectfully as we passed.
The place wasn't luxurious like the royal wing, but it was clean and well maintained. Even with its simplicity, there was a warmth to it that the grand halls of the palace somehow lacked.
To my surprise, Sophia wasn't staying with the other servants.
Her room was tucked away in a separate section at the end of the large corridor, standing on its own as though someone had intentionally set it apart from the others.
As we approached the door, I couldn't help turning toward Lily.
"Why is Sophia staying here all by herself?"
Lily answered before I could even finish asking.
