"You know... your mother was my friend," Linda said softly as she stood up and walked toward the window, her gaze drifting into the distance as though she were looking back into the past.
"She went by the name Becca Villion, but her real name was Becca Moonseer. She was one of us. After years of loneliness and hiding, we became good friends. We did almost everything together. We trained together, laughed together, argued together... she was like a sister to me.
"Then one day, during the Bonding Solstice, your father arrived at the capital. That was the first time they met."
A faint smile crossed Linda's lips. "It was sparks immediately. You know how the mate bond works."
Her smile slowly faded. "Sometimes I have cursed the Moon Goddess for creating a bond that cannot always protect us."
She sighed deeply before continuing.
