I watched in horror as Enzo fell to the ground. It was so shocking and unexpected that for a few seconds, I could not move, but then I screamed and ran to him, picking him up with all the strength I could muster and pulling him onto my lap as I held his face in my hands.
"Enzo, no… no, open your eyes," I said to him, my voice shaking as I desperately tried to get him to respond.
He struggled to keep his eyes open, and my eyes immediately snapped upward. To my dismay, I saw the ugly witch, whom I assumed was Seraphine because of the way she had addressed him and what she had said earlier. She was still casting the spell, but for some reason, it seemed like the spell was eating her up as well. Her body was changing, and I could see that she was dying alongside Enzo.
"Please stop!" I screamed, begging her. "You are hurting him and yourself. You will die too if you keep doing that."
I tried to reason with her, but she only smiled at me.
