001.1 - Verdant Expanse

The Living Dominion of the Elderwood

The Verdant Expanse stretches across the western reaches of Altrexia, a vast ocean of forest older than recorded human history. Before the Great Awakening, it was untouched by outside rule — an emerald sanctuary governed by ancient elven conclaves and guided by druidic rites older than crowns.

When the sky fractured, the forest did not burn.

It changed.

Aether seeped into root and branch. Some groves withered. Others grew impossibly tall. Certain regions became sentient in strange, subtle ways. Paths shift. Clearings appear where none existed. Whispers ride the wind at dusk.

The Expanse today is divided into two primary spheres of governance — not by war, but by ideology.

And at the heart of each stands a capital.

The Divide

The Verdant Expanse is not at war with itself.

But it is not unified.

Tabarnaouk accuses Estiouk of arrogance — of walking too close to corruption.

Estiouk accuses Tabarnaouk of stagnation — of clinging to a world that no longer exists.

Between them lie:

- The Shifting Wilds

- Corrupted groves

- Experimental sanctuaries

- Regions where the forest behaves unpredictably

Both capitals send wardens into these territories.

Sometimes together.

Sometimes not.

Reputation Across Altrexia

To Vlodea:

The Verdant Expanse is a necessary but unreliable ally.

To the Ironveil dwarves:

The forest hides too many secrets.

To adventurers:

The Wilds are both opportunity and death.

To Rift cultists:

The forest remembers something older than the Awakening.
