JASMINE
"What…"
The single word slipped from my lips like a broken whisper as I stood frozen in the hospital corridor.
My bare feet felt cold against the tiled floor, and the sterile scent of disinfectant burned my nose. My head still throbbed from the earlier chaos, and my legs ached with every small movement, but none of that compared to the terror clawing at my chest right now.
"Stephan… can you recall our last conversation?" I asked, my voice shaking.
He paused, staring at me for several long seconds. His brows furrowed as if he was digging through thick fog in his mind, but nothing seemed to surface. Finally, he shook his head slowly.
"Why are you still outside?" he asked, confusion coloring his tone. "And why do you think I can't recall anything we were talking about before?"
I felt the ground tilt beneath me. "So you can't recall anything about Mia?"
He shook his head again.
