Ivan's pleasant headspace was broken by the call. It was from Joshua, and he pretended to ignore it the first time.
But then the alpha called a second time, and then a third. When the call came a fourth time, Ivan knew that he needed to pick it up. He did not want the other alpha to show up at his home… or worse, make trouble that could call him back.
