Chapter 35 - 37. The Hidden Identify

~Sometimes the truth isn't just shocking.

Sometimes… it changes who you are.

And tonight—

Elara was about to learn the secret her father died protecting.

---

The storm outside had grown stronger.

Rain crashed against the tall windows of the Valentino estate.

Inside the war room, tension filled the air.

Ares stood near the table, studying the system reports Luca had pulled from the network.

"Volkov didn't hack the system," Luca said quietly.

"He walked into it."

Ares's eyes remained cold.

"Meaning?"

"The missing administrator."

Marcus leaned forward.

"You think Volkov recruited him?"

Luca shook his head.

"Not recruited."

"Owned."

Elara stood silently near the wall.

Her mind was still replaying Volkov's words.

He wasn't protecting documents.

He was protecting you.

She finally spoke.

"What am I missing?"

Everyone looked at her.

Ares stepped closer.

"Your father was investigating Volkov."

"I know."

"But not for the reason we thought."

Elara frowned.

"Then why?"

Luca turned the laptop toward her.

"I went deeper into the old files."

"What did you find?"

Luca hesitated.

"Your father's last report wasn't about crime."

"Then what was it about?"

Luca's voice lowered.

"Identity."

The word hung in the air.

Elara blinked.

"I don't understand."

Ares opened the folder from his desk again.

Inside was a photograph.

Old.

Faded.

A man stood beside her father.

Tall.

Sharp features.

Cold eyes.

The same eyes she had seen on the screen earlier.

Volkov.

But the photo was different.

Younger.

And standing beside a woman holding a baby.

Elara stared at it.

Her chest tightened.

"That baby…"

Ares watched her carefully.

"Yes."

Her voice shook.

"That's me."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unbelievable.

Elara looked up slowly.

"No…"

Ares spoke quietly.

"This photo was taken twenty-four years ago."

"My father never knew Volkov."

Ares didn't respond.

Because that statement was already wrong.

Luca pointed to the back of the photograph.

"There's writing."

Elara turned it over.

And read the faded ink.

Family Record – Volkov Foundation

Her breathing stopped.

"No…"

Ares finally said the words.

"Volkov knew you before that night."

Her mind raced.

"That's impossible."

Marcus spoke slowly.

"Not if your father took you away from him."

The room felt like it was spinning.

Elara stepped backward.

"You're saying…"

Ares finished the sentence.

"Your father didn't just protect you."

"He rescued you."

Lightning flashed outside.

Elara shook her head.

"No."

"My father would never steal someone's child."

Luca answered quietly.

"He wouldn't."

"But what if he was saving you from something?"

The silence that followed was terrifying.

Elara looked down at the photo again.

Her younger self.

In Volkov's arms.

Her heart pounded violently.

"If this is true…"

She whispered.

"Then why does Volkov want me now?"

Ares's voice turned darker.

"Because you're not just anyone."

Elara looked at him.

"What do you mean?"

Ares pointed at the file Luca had opened.

At the name printed in bold letters.

VOLKOV FAMILY LINEAGE

Luca explained slowly.

"Volkov doesn't just run a criminal empire."

"He runs an inheritance network."

Elara frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Marcus answered.

"It means power is passed through blood."

The truth hit like a bomb.

Elara's voice trembled.

"You're saying…"

Ares nodded once.

"Yes."

Volkov wasn't searching for her.

He was reclaiming her.

Because according to the records—

Elara wasn't just connected to the enemy.

She was born into it.

Ares watched her carefully.

Waiting for fear.

Shock.

Panic.

But what he saw instead surprised him.

Elara slowly lifted her head.

Her eyes sharper now.

Stronger.

"So what?"

The room went quiet again.

Ares raised a brow.

"So what?"

She stepped closer to him.

"If Volkov thinks blood decides who I belong to…"

Her voice hardened.

"He's wrong."

Ares studied her.

And for the first time since this began—

He smiled.

Because the girl Volkov thought he could control—

Had already become something far more dangerous.

Elara Valentino.

---

~Elara finally discovered the truth.

She was born into Volkov's bloodline.

But she chose Valentino.

And that choice—

Would start the most dangerous war yet.
