Chapter 25 - The White Room

When your enemy smiles after you lose consciousness… know the game isn't over.

Inside the black SUV, silence pressed heavily against the windows.

Ian Vale sat in the back seat, the case beside him.

Up front, Marcus Heller scrolled through his phone.

The device vibrated.

Heller glanced at the screen.

His expression shifted.

Jaw tightening.

He read the message again.

Slowly.

Then turned toward Ian.

"I underestimated you."

Ian didn't answer.

Only watched him.

Heller added, tension sharpening his tone:

"It seems you prefer a different negotiation style."

He signaled the driver.

"Pull over."

The vehicle stopped at the roadside.

Heller stepped out to make a call.

Inside

A faint white vapor began seeping through the rear vents.

Ian lifted his head abruptly.

Coughed.

Looked around.

"What is this ?"

He reached for the case.

Tried to stand.

Vision blurring.

He fought it.

Inhaled sharply.

But the gas was faster.

His focus fractured.

His eyelids fell.

His head tilted to the side.

Still.

Heller returned.

Looked through the glass.

Saw the young man motionless.

"Move him."

The door opened.

They removed the case from his grip.

Transferred his body into another vehicle.

The convoy shifted direction

Toward one of the secured facilities.

Elsewhere

A car pulled up to a private residence outside Oregon.

Jack Harper and Margaret Harper stepped out, tense.

Before they could knock

The door opened.

A young woman stood there.

Derya Aksoy.

She smiled calmly.

"I'm Derya."

Jack stared, stunned.

"Where "

"Come in."

She led them inside.

Opened a side room.

There

Emmy Harper slept peacefully on the bed.

Jack and Margaret exhaled in disbelief.

Margaret stepped forward.

Touched her daughter's forehead.

"Is she ?"

"She's fine. Mild sedative only."

Jack's voice broke.

"Where's Ian?"

Derya didn't answer immediately.

She only said:

"Now… the difficult part begins."

On the way to the facility

Ian's body lay motionless.

Heller's men searched him thoroughly.

They confiscated his phone.

Removed a hidden tracker embedded inside the case lining.

They found a thermal trigger device meant to incinerate its contents.

One of the men removed it with a triumphant smirk.

Heller said:

"Take him to Site Two."

"After confirmation?"

"Search him again."

They checked his clothing.

His shoes.

His hair.

Nothing.

The white room.

When Ian opened his eyes

Everything was white.

Walls.

Ceiling.

Floor.

Clinical.

Too clean.

A large mirror on one wall reflected his image.

He knew

Eyes were behind it.

In front of him

A polished table.

Small sealed vials.

Clear chemical compounds arranged neatly.

The chair he sat in

Bolted to the floor.

Wrists and ankles restrained.

Like a dentist's chair

Without comfort.

The door opened quietly.

Marcus Heller entered.

Removed his jacket.

Placed it on the table.

Approached slowly.

"Do you know what I like about you?"

Ian remained silent.

"You don't scream."

Heller picked up one of the small vials.

Held it to the light.

"We don't want you dead."

He leaned closer.

"We want what's in your head."

Silence.

Then a faint smile.

"And I think cooperation would be… healthier for you."

Ian breathed slowly.

Appeared weak.

Fatigued.

Subdued.

But behind his eyes

There was no fear.

Only patience.

Elsewhere

Derya Aksoy watched a small digital timer.

The countdown had begun.
