Hanna yawns and stretches, her shirt briefly riding up just enough to see her lower stomach. Not something I want to see before I go bed. Chase though, looked thrilled seeing it. Pervert. Her problem though, not mine. Yunjin gave Chase a glare and he looked away. Then Hanna spoke.
"It's getting late and alot has happened today, so let's figure out how we're going to sleep, now."
Voice gentle but commanding.
"We could use the tarp as a blanket or make a somewhat tent?"
Ash says, using my idea that I told her.
"Well there are scraps we can use aswell." I gesture to the back of the roof where the tarp hangs motionless and scraps of wood,metal and who knows what under it.
"So you can be smart." Chase tries teasing me. Jeez, why does everyone think im stupid, even Hanna said that to me before.
"Do you want my help or not." I say to him making it clear that i cant be asked to deal with him, he's really annoying already.
"If it's useful help, yeah." Yunjin says, probably backing Chase up or just being her annoying self.
"Guys can we just focus on what we're supposed to do." Ash says trying to defuse the situation.
"Already was.." I mumble
Hanna gets up first to the back of the roof where all the scrap and the tarp is.
"Careful there Hanna." Chase calls out playfully. Something about his words makes me impulsively get up and follow Hanna.
"I'll help." Why am I saying this before I can stop myself.
"What a nice surprise then." Hanna teases, only time I hear her use this tone is with me.
"An amazing one, so treasure it." I mock as I step over a wooden plank. "It doesn't look like it's going to rain should we just get the tarp and sleep on the floor?" I ask, mostly at Hanna but the others can hear aswell.
"Sounds good." Sieun speaks up from Hyuns side. Hyun nods with him. "Yeah whatever." Chase says.
"As long as it's warm." Ash says with her usual smile.
Yunjin sighs. "Ah fine but if my back hurts tomorrow I'm blaming you, Alex. Oh and I dibs next to Hanna."
Me and Hanna go to get the tarp, it's high up wrapped around some pole, but whatever it is it's annoying. I tug at the tarp trying to pull it off.
"Don't do that I don't want a ripped rag covering me tonight." Hanna says as she calls Hyun and Chase instead.
"Need of some strong guys?" Chase flexes his muscles for no absolute reason.
"Just get the damn tarp." I sigh.
Hyun just nods at me, while Chase winks at Hanna. I might die from cringe.
I go back to the fire trying not to trip on wooden planks, and Hanna follows, but her hand gripping my sleeve so if she falls I fall with her.
How considerate.
"Are you trying to make me fall or something." I glance back at her.
"Well yeah, I'm not going down alone.. Take it as pay back for earlier today."
Don't tell me she's talking about when I almost hit her with my skateboard today on the way to school.
"You literally walked in the way though."
"No! And either way you could have went around me instead of crashing into me."
"Your hopeless." I say bluntly.
"Shut up." She pulls me back by my sleeve and goes ahead as I stumble in the planks. This girl oh my God. I swear she has something with my wrists and sleeves.
I sigh and regain my balance after snapping a wooden board accidentally with my foot. I walk back to the fire standing over it for some warmth while Hanna is next to the fire aswell with Yunjin by her side as usual. Ash comes by my side.
"Can I sleep by you tonight." Ash whispers gently in my ear.
"Do what you want."
"Thanks." She stays close to me as we all get rid of any scrap or object that could hurt us on the ground where we plan to sleep.
Hyun and Chase get the tarp and come back to everyone and lay it down.
"Wait, I have to sleep on the ground!?."
Yunjin says as its a crime.
"Well yeah, wasn't it obvious before." I say flatly while helping spread out the tarp.
She groans in annoyance.
"I hate this.."
She then eventually gives in as she sees Hanna helping set the tarp up aswell.
The fire stays crackling beside us all as we lay down on the floor. It's rough, cold and just uncomfortable. I doubt I'd be able to sleep.
Sieun is snuggled up to Hyun who seems to already be asleep. Chase tries going to sleep next to Hanna but Yunjin goes between them making Chase be between Yunjin and Hyun. Yunjin stays close to Hanna, practically touching, and me, unfortunately I am on Hannas other side. I was hoping to just take the edge and Ash next to me, but somehow I got to this position.
I sigh and lay on my back looking up at the night sky. The sounds of sirens, crashing and screams continue as smoke fills the night sky.
The fire slowly dies out as all of us, except Hyun can't sleep.
"Im sorry."
Yunjin says, breaking the silence.
"Sorry for what?" Chase asks.
"For everything, complaining and for the past." She definitely means the past bullying on me. "Honestly I'm just really scared, I miss my mom and dad, so I really want to get along with all you and survive together."
"She's right, we're all scared and mabye did things we regret, but it's best to get over and forget it, for our sake of survival." Hanna speaks up.
"I'll try and be helpful." Sieuns small voice speaks up.
"Thanks dude." Chase supports him.
It goes silent again as if everyone is waiting for me to say something.
I sigh.
"I'll help and try to get along with you all."
Ash nods.
"Let's survive then, together." Ash says.
We falls into silence, not the awkward one or tense one as before, but one of new understanding and comfort. It all feels weird and new to me, I don't like it.
"Night guys." Yunjin mumbles.
We all say our small good night's back then silence again.
I stay laying on my back, starting to ache from some small rocks digging in. I definitely can't sleep now. I glance rover to the edge of the roof where I left my bag, skateboard sticking out of it. Man, I really want to skate right now...
Before I finish my thoughts I fall asleep, adrenaline gone and just tiredness now.
The roof where we all sleep seems peaceful despite the chaos under. Ash's arm wrapped around mine on my side and Hanna's hand resting on my other arm, Yunjin nuzzled in Hannas back Chase taking the most space and Hyun and Sieun close with eachother. Everything was comfortable despite the cold ground and new life that has been thrown on us unwillingly.
A soft breeze came, ruffling the tarp slightly on us all. It was colder now and everyone seemed to subconsciously go closer to the nearest person next to them, expect Chase, he was spread out freely, also pushing the rest of us closer. Seriously who let this guy sleep in the middle. Hanna was now fully into my shoulder and Ash's chest pressed against my sidearm as Yujin's chest was to Hannas back. I stay laying on my back sleeping better than I do in my own house, mabye it was the comfort of people next to me, or the ease of knowing my mom isn't there with her endless shouting, whatever it is I like it..
BANG!BANG! The sound comes from the roof door that we locked off.
The universe hates me.
