Chapter 16 - Ego

Ryan's POV

Unlike most rich and powerful men, Ryan liked to believe he did not think too highly of himself.

That he had a reasonable amount of ego.

He was not one of those conceited douche-bags who actually believed that they were God's gift to women.

But even though he did have that very humble side to himself, Ryan was also honest.

The truth was that not only was he rich, he had countless women throwing themselves at him. A situation that he often benefitted greatly from. Thanks to his experiences with the opposite sex, Ryan had developed a bit of a sixth sense.

Whenever he had a one night stand with a woman and it was a mind-blowing one. More often than not, he could tell when the woman was likely to reach out and want to do it again. Most times he turned those women down, he was never one to go back for seconds, be it with food or with ladies.

Unfortunately for him though, some women did not get that.

They thought that just because he had slept with them once, it meant he would be willing to do it again.

As a result, Ryan had often had to have his security be on high alert.

Sometimes even going as far as to give them a woman's picture and tell them to keep her away at all costs, even if she claimed to know him.

Constantly being sent back by his security was often enough to get most women to lose interest and back off.

After his night with Vivian, Ryan's sixth sense was tingling.

That night had been the best that he could ever remember having. There was no way that Vivian would not be trying to reach out. Deciding to knock possible obstacles out of her way before she encountered them. Ryan was currently talking to his head of security.

"If a woman by the name of Vivian Rose walks in here looking for me, let her through," Order given, Ryan went about his day, whistling as he did so.

They'd had a good time.

There was just no way Vivian would not be coming back looking for some more.

***.

At most, Ryan had given Vivian two weeks to reach out.

But the two week mark had come and gone. Then it had become a third, then a fourth week, now they were currently in the fifth week and there was still no Vivian.

Could it be? Had his special sense been wrong for once?

Was he the only one who'd had a spectacular time during their encounter? Was that why Vivian had not reached out?

No, no way.

They had been amazing together, she had to be out there wanting some more of him.

When one more week came and went, Ryan began to move with an edge of desperation that he was not used to.

He checked with the security every day.

"Has she come through?"

"Have you seen her?"

"Has she reached out?" And every single time the answer was always the same.

"No woman by the name Vivian Rose has come forward,"

It was maddening, but Ryan, never one to just sit there and do nothing when things were not going his way, decided to put feelers out, doing so very subtly.

He put word out in all of the businesses that he had. Believing that perhaps Vivian would stalk him to the point of finding out which building he resided in. Or that maybe she would walk into one of his establishments and ask to see him.

As a result, they too were notified to let him know if Vivian Rose came looking for him. Thanks to that, Ryan had several of his people reaching out to him. But the news that he got was not what he was hoping to hear at all.

All of them told him about women wanting to see him again. But they were women that Ryan had long since forgotten about. Their faces, vaguely familiar, with their names long gone from his memory.

After having to turn down seven very determined women, Ryan told his businesses to stop reporting to him if a woman came looking. Once again going back to just waiting for news from his security and hoping that maybe he would randomly bump into Vivian while out and about in the city.

That was the least likely outcome since they moved in different social circles, and the city was so large. But the secret romantic in Ryan. The one that he would deny existed even under the pain of torture, hoped that it was the one that would be most likely to happen.

***

Marking the end of yet another week without Vivian reaching out to him. Ryan had to admit that his very modestly sized ego was bruised.

Why was she not reaching out?

Typing her name into a search bar, the billionaire found himself clenching his teeth in frustration.

Why was Vivian not all over the internet the way he was?

He combed through different articles and found absolutely nothing about a preschool teacher by that name. When he went over to images to search for her, there was no woman with a heart shaped face, and boobs so big and soft a man could drown in them.

Where was she?

Trying to narrow the search down, Ryan typed Vivian Rose-preschool teacher, and then added the city name. That search yielded absolutely no results, realizing what he was doing, he put his phone down like it had scolded him, standing up and backing away a few paces.

Had he seriously been trying to stalk the woman, clearly he had been losing it without even realizing.

He and Vivian had had a one night stand, a great one for that matter.

But the thing with one night stands, was that they never happened again.

He knew those rules, and he was normally very good at following them. Shaking his head, Ryan came to the conclusion that focusing too much on how good the night had been, was messing with his judgment.

Sure it had been amazing sex, but there were plenty of women out there, women more than willing to sleep with him.

In order to forget about Vivian Rose, he just had to go back to his playboy lifestyle.

She would be sure to fade from his mind very quickly after that.
