The night had settled in properly now.
The workshop lights were dimmer than usual, casting soft shadows across the walls. Outside, the wind moved gently through the grass, barely loud enough to notice.
Inside, no one was training.
For once.
Rex sat on the floor, leaning back on his hands, staring up at the ceiling.
"…You ever just do nothing?" he asked.
Chica, sitting on the bench nearby, looked over at him. "You do nothing all the time."
"…Not like that."
She smirked. "Then what do you mean?"
Rex shrugged slightly. "Like… actually nothing. No thinking. No training. No worrying about anything."
Chica looked at him for a second.
"…No."
"…Yeah. Figures."
Viper sat at the table, flipping a small tool in his hand absentmindedly. "You'd get bored in five minutes."
Rex let out a short laugh. "Probably."
Silence drifted through the room again.
Not awkward.
Just quiet.
Chica leaned back slightly, resting her hands behind her.
"…Feels weird."
Rex glanced at her. "What does?"
"…This."
She gestured vaguely around the room.
"No alarms. No fighting. No machines trying to kill us."
Viper didn't look up. "Enjoy it while it lasts."
"…You're so positive," Rex said.
"I'm realistic."
Chica looked toward the open doorway.
The night stretched out endlessly beyond it.
"…He's still out there, isn't he?"
Rex followed her gaze.
"…Yeah."
Viper nodded once. "Hasn't stopped."
Another quiet moment passed.
Then Chica stood up.
"I'm heading out."
Rex raised an eyebrow. "To train?"
"…No."
She paused at the doorway.
"…Just to walk."
Rex smiled slightly. "Don't get lost."
She didn't respond.
Just stepped out into the night.
The wind brushed past her as she moved through the field.
Far ahead, faint and distant
A soft green flicker lit the darkness for a split second.
Then vanished.
Chica watched it for a moment.
"…Yeah."
Then she kept walking.
Behind her, the workshop stayed quiet.
