Chapter 12 - 12. Not Love… But a Chance

Chahat took a deep, trembling breath before finally speaking.

"Myra and I have been friends since childhood… we literally grew up together. We played together, went to school together, studied together. We didn't just share moments… we shared emotions. From a very young age, we understood each other's pain without even saying a word."

Her voice began to shake.

"Myra had only one dream since childhood—to become Miss India. It wasn't just a dream for her… it was her entire life."

A tear slowly slipped down her cheek.

"And that night… on the wedding day… she got a call from a big producer. She was so happy… I had never seen her that happy before. It felt like her dream was finally coming true."

Chahat's hands clenched tightly.

"And for that dream… I was ready to do anything. That's why I agreed to help her. That's why I sat in the mandap in her place…"

Her voice broke completely.

"But trust me, Aarav… I didn't know… I never imagined that she wouldn't come back."

And with that, she burst into tears, unable to hold herself anymore.

Aarav stood there quietly, listening to every word.

Every emotion.

Every truth.

And slowly… something inside him began to change.

He realized one thing clearly—

Chahat was not at fault.

Seeing her cry like that… completely shattered him.

He took a step closer and gently placed his hands on her shoulders.

"Hey…" he said softly, trying to calm her down.

"Relax…"

His voice was no longer harsh. It was calm… understanding.

"Whatever happened… wasn't in your control… or mine… or anyone else's," he continued.

"Maybe… this was just fate. Maybe this was how things were meant to happen."

He paused for a moment, collecting his thoughts.

"But I won't lie… it's not easy for me. I need time… time to heal… time to understand everything… and time to accept it."

Chahat looked at him, her eyes still filled with tears.

Aarav took a deep breath.

"That's why… I've decided something," he said.

Chahat's heart skipped a beat.

"What?"

Aarav gave a faint but genuine smile.

"I want to give this relationship a chance."

Chahat looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

Aarav looked straight into her eyes.

"Before marriage, we were friends… right?"

"So now… even after marriage… let's begin this relationship as friends."

He spoke gently.

"No pressure. No expectations. Just… understanding each other."

Then he asked softly,

"Are you okay with that?"

For a moment, Chahat couldn't say anything.

Then slowly… she nodded.

A small smile appeared on her face… mixed with tears.

Aarav gently wiped her tears with his hands.

"And one more thing…" he said teasingly,

"If you keep crying like this… then I'll become the worst person in the world."

Chahat let out a small laugh through her tears.

"Okay… fine. I won't cry anymore."

Just then—

A weird sound interrupted the moment.

Both of them froze for a second.

And then realized… it was coming from their stomachs.

They looked at each other… and suddenly burst into laughter.

"Let's eat," Aarav said. "I'm starving."

Chahat nodded.

"Me too… I didn't even eat properly."

Both of them went to the kitchen, took out the food, and sat together at the dining table. The house was quiet—everyone had already finished their dinner.

The table had simple yet comforting food—chole, roti, paneer, curd, and rice… all cooked by Chahat.

While eating, Aarav looked at her and said,

"The food is really good… honestly."

Chahat smiled softly, feeling a little appreciated.

Just then, Aarav's sister, Seeka, walked in.

"Oh wow! What's going on here?" she said playfully.

She crossed her arms and teased,

"Brother… this is so wrong."

Aarav raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?"

Seeka grinned mischievously.

"I mean… you both are newly married! And you're eating like an old couple?"

Then she added dramatically,

"No romance? No drama? At least feed each other!"

Both Aarav and Chahat got embarrassed and immediately refused.

Seeka made a sad face.

"Wow… you can't even do this much for me? Fine…"

They both looked at each other… and silently agreed.

Seeka clapped happily.

"That's like it!"

Aarav picked up a bite and gently fed Chahat.

For a moment… everything felt calm.

Chahat felt something warm in her heart.

Then she fed Aarav.

Seeka watched them with a big smile, clearly enjoying the moment.

After dinner, Aarav and Chahat went back to their room.

Last night, Aarav had slept on the sofa in anger.

But tonight… things had changed.

They decided to sleep on the same bed.

However, they placed a pillow between them.

A small distance…

A silent understanding…

Giving each other time and space.

The next morning…

Chahat went to the bathroom to freshen up.

She hung her clothes on the hook and stepped inside.

Suddenly—

Her eyes landed on something on the wall.

And she screamed loudly.

Hearing her scream, Aarav immediately rushed out of bed.

Chahat ran out of the bathroom in fear.

"What happened?" Aarav asked, concerned.

"There's a lizard in the bathroom! Please remove it!" she said, panicking.

Aarav looked at her… and burst into laughter.

"I didn't know you were this scared," he said, still laughing.

Chahat got annoyed.

"Fine! I'll use Seeka's bathroom!"

And she walked away angrily.

Aarav stood there, smiling slightly.

But deep inside…

A question still remained—

Will Aarav truly be able to forget Myra…

and move on in this new relationship?
