LUCA'S POV
I walked out of the basement without looking back. The steel door clunked shut behind me, cutting off Tony's shaky breathing like a switch turned off.
I sat in the back of my car when I heard the call come in. I had one hand on my knee, the other resting loosely on the seat beside me. I wasn't thinking about anything except the numbers I was calculating for tomorrow's shipment. Then the phone rang. Private line. Only three people had it. I picked up on the second ring.
"Boss." Marco's voice sounded tight, like he was trying not to be nervous. "She's awake."
I stopped moving my fingers on my knee.
"But she's not talking," he added quickly. "Her eyes are open and she's breathing normally. Doctor says her vitals are fine. No fever, nothing physical except a few scratches. But she isn't responding. We've been checking every ten minutes, like you said. Thought you'd want to know right away."
