Chapter 10 - Purchasing the offset machines

While Madan was procrastinating about the future Arjun was busy planning ahead. Even if he knew about Madan's plans he would just laugh it off. They were truly not ready to go for printing.

They had no material to print on and no model to print. The All in One he had planned to make was still a concept, he would need to reach out to the teachers in their village to get things done.

After all it was one thing for a ten year old kid to own the press but who would purchase the book if it was written by a ten year old kid? They would start laughing on his face if someone came to know about this.

His All in One needed credibility, and who better to give credibility than the teachers in their village. They would receive their honors through the author's page and also considerable pay for working on this project.

He explained his thoughts to Madan, Madan who was busy with his procrastinations was suddenly brought down to earth. It seems he was thinking too ahead of the curve, there was so much more to do.

As he was made aware of Arjun's plans Madan proposed an alternative, Instead of dealing individually with each teacher he would make contact with the school management.

This would help them get everyone on board much faster. The school headmaster was his friend after all and which scholar would reject their name growing more popular. All they had to do was mention the school and head master name in epilogue and that would do.

They could still pay the teachers as Arjun had suggested which would help them give more incentive to work faster.

As they were done finalizing their plan, Bhargav had arrived. He had already started the initial form application. It was time for the registration office to do their work, with Madan's backing this process would be expedited in a much faster manner.

They then headed together to meet up with Gopal Rao to finalize the deal they had planned ahead. The vibe in town had still not changed much from two days earlier, it was still gloomy everywhere. They could not notice a single adult with a smile on his face.

Gopal Rao was ecstatic to see them come back. Based on his judgement of Madan's personality he would only come back if they were to finalize the deal.

Once done with their small talk and refreshments Arjun was the one to talk first. "Gopal garu we are happy with the price for the machine that needs repairs but would it be possible to adjust the price for the one that is in perfect condition?".

Gopal had been expecting this to come up put up a sad face and mentioned "As i have already mentioned it earlier this is my bottom line, At forty five thousand i am pretty sure there will be many who will be lining up at my door for the machine".

Arjun with a smile countered "Yes that would have been the case in the normal situations but you also have to consider the situation Vijayawada is currently in, You are not even guaranteed to have a working machine the next day if you started your printing work back again".

How could Gopal not understand this, He had to close down his shop for the past couple of weeks but still had to keep paying his workers their wages. Even worse was that he did not have an inkling about when this issue would end and town would return to peace.

This was his main reason for planning to shift his press to Hyderabad. While he was planning his move Madan came to him like a rain for a farmer who was struggling in draught.

While he may not be able to move these machines out of Vijayawada that might not be the case for Madan. He could get this done very easily and hence Gopal had offered his best offer as soon as they expressed his willingness to purchase the main machines of his press.

So even with unwillingness he could only express that reducing the price any more would hurt his bottom line and cause him losses.

Arjun was precisely waiting for this, He instead shifted his focus onto the workers that had been working for Gopal and the raw materials that were still left unused. He was pretty sure there would be plenty with him and the surrounding presses as they had to shut their shops unexpectedly. If it was because of lack of orders it would have been a different case but having been forced to shut down they had plenty raw materials left to spare.

Of course he was not asking them for free but he was looking forward to purchase them below their original market price. Gopal who was in this business all his life understood Arjun's motives instantly.

Although unwilling this was the only option he had. If he considered taking these together with him, he did not know whether they would reach Hyderabad at all. Instead it was better to sell them off to these guys.

Even if it was a loss, it would not be so much to hurt his future plans. He was also happy to introduce them to their chief editor Mallesh Yadav and his assistant who was also his son Rohan Yadav. If his employees could find job in another press due to his recommendation it would be beneficial to him in the long term too.

They finished his negotiations for the raw materials and the press together he would sell them for eighty five thousand rupees. Arjun was happy with this price, if he had to purchase the same in the market it would cost him over twelve thousand for the raw materials.

Even if it was only two thousand rupees difference, to their company which only had liquid funds of less than fifty five thousand rupees this was considerable amount of money.

They proceeded to the nearby Grameen Bank to finish the deal and transfer the money to Gopal which was handled by Madan.

Once done with their deal Gopal informed his assistant to call for the father and son duo while they proceeded to meetup with the nearby press owners to purchase more raw materials.

While most of the owners turned them down upon hearing their offers which were below their acceptable price, there were almost half a dozen people who were happy to take on the deal.

They too similar to Gopal wanted to take the business elsewhere. Arjun then proceeded to purchase raw materials worth thirty five thousand for thirty thousand rupees. Just these raw materials alone helped him save seven thousand rupees which could be used in other areas.

Madan handed them the cash which he had withdrawn earlier from the bank. As they were done they were greeted by a old guy who seemed to be in his early sixties and his son who was in his late thirties.

Arjun instantly understood these were the father and son duo Gopal had informed them of, He proceeded to explain them his needs of moving to their village to carry on with the press.

He offered to increase their salaries by hundred rupees each, which would amount to nine hundred for Mallesh the chief editor and seven hundred to his son. He also mentioned potential promotion for his son if their press was a success and had to increase their production.

Mallesh was very happy with the wages he was offered, Although it would mean moving away from the town where he had spent his last thirty years in, It would also help him his long lasting wish to moving back to a village.

It would also help the family decrease their spending by a lot, The sum which could be saved and put forward to purchasing their own home. He felt it was quite embarrassing for him who was over sixty years old to stay in a rented house.

Rohan on the other hand found it difficult to move to a village. He was born and bought up in this town, all of his friends were here. He was very used to the privileges that came with being in a town like electricity for over twelve hours, water supply, ease of access to various entertainment areas.

Rohan and Mallesh then proceeded to have an intense discussion regarding this. Rohan was finally convinced by his father once he learned about the plans to buy a house.

After all it would come to him once his father expired, not that he hoped for it but it would help them gain respect in front of their relatives too.

He was already tired of his wife's nagging about not having their own home. They happily signed on their agreements which stated they could not leave the press for the first two years after joining.

They even found a clause in the agreement stating they would be given two percent of the company shares if their performance exceeded the set expectations.

This came as quite a surprise to them as they had never heard of it being done before. Still they were even more happy and decided to give their 120 percent in the work they do. They promised Arjun they would be done with their procedures and would join him in his village within three days.

Arjun's first visit to the town was very successful in his opinion. They proceeded to the nearby movie theatre to watch a movie before returning to the village.
