"Chen Wenjin is sensible and well behaved. The Chen family provides her with all she could possibly need. Chen Jinyu, what nonsense are you spouting against your sister?" Chen Wenjin's mother asked in anger.
"Ten points!" Shen Xiatang said as she clapped and Chen Wenjin tried her hardest to keep a smile from escaping her.
"Mother, it's not nonsense." Chen Jinyu said as she knelt down instantly.
"I really saw sister go into the Marquis study and several other maids and servants can testify to this." Chen Jinyu said in a pitiful tone.
"That's right." Madam Liu said as she backed Chen Jinyu's story up.
"We already had a thorough search of the mansion before coming here and several maids and servants pointed out Chen Wenjin as the culprit!" Madam Liu yelled.
"From my knowledge the Liu family came here with you." Chen Lihua, Chen Wenjin's mother said as he pointed at Chen Jinyu.
"The Liu family thoroughly searched their Estate this morning from their early statement so how come you" Chen Lihua said, stressing the word "you".
"Just happened to be there?" Chen Lihua demanded.
"Asking the right questions." Shen Xiatang said as she cheered.
"What is the meaning of this?" Madam Liu asked Chen Lihua through gritted teeth.
"I am not dumb to the dumb to the rumors surrounding you two" Chen Lihua said as she pointed at Liu Tiancheng and Chen Jinyu.
"If I see any hint that this is an elaborate plan to ruin my daughter, the Chen family will make sure to break the marriage agreement that binds our two families." Chen Lihua said in anger as she glared at Chen Jinyu and Liu Tiancheng.
"Do a proper kowtow to your mother every morning." Shen Xiatang said as she stared at the woman before her in awe.
"Even if she tries to stop you, do it anyway." Shen Xiatang said as she continued to stare at Chen Lihua.
"We have until the shadow becomes the shortest on the sundial." said Shen Xiatang.
"Stall them until Xiao Mei gets back." said Shen Xiatang.
"Mother," Chen Wenjin said, referring to Madam Liu as she knelt down.
"Chen Wenjin has never taken a crumb of bread even when the crumbs overflowed from a plate without being told to." said Chen Wenjin.
"I, Chen Wenjin, don't have the conscience to steal disaster relief funds for thousands of people in the south." Chen Wenjin said pitifully and her mother and father nodded in agreement.
"There must be some kind of misunderstanding." Chen Zixuan, Chen Wenjin's father said as he tried to be the voice of reason.
"A Misunderstanding?" the Marquis asked as he stared at the Chen family.
"The disaster relief funds for thousands of people in the south, gone and you call it a misunderstanding?" The Marquis asked as he slammed his hand on the table before him
"If not for the marriage contract between our two families, I would have reported this straight to the emperor!" The Marquis said as he pointed to the sky.
"That's right." Madam Liu said in agreement with her husband.
"We are gathered here today to rectify this issue as a family," Madam Liu said in a calm tone.
"Trying to brush off this matter as a misunderstanding or as a plot to ruin your daughter is simply unacceptable!" yelled Madam Liu.
"Liu Tiancheng, Liu Tiancheng we have been betrothed for more than ten years." Chen Wenjin said as she crawled to Liu Tiancheng.
"Chen Wenjin is not capable of stealing the disaster relief funds." Chen Wenjin said, desperately trying to prove her innocence.
"Tell me you don't believe this." Chen Wenjin said in a pitiful tone that resembled her begging him to speak up for her.
"Dozens of maids and male servants saw you come out of the Marquis study and even your own cousin, Chen Jinyu testifies against you and you still dare to deny it?" Liu Tiancheng asked Chen Wenjin with a sneer.
"Chen Wenjin, do you take us all for fools?" Liu Tiancheng asked in anger as he pushed her away from him and Chen Zixuan had to hold his wife's hand to stop her from reacting.
Shaking her head in mock despair, Chen Wenjin said "Mother, you have known Chen Wenjin for years." Chen Wenjin said as she held on to the hem of Madam Liu's clothes.
"Chen Wenjin is incapable of doing such a thing." Chen Wenjin said with tears in her eyes.
"How did you do that?" Shen Xiatang asked as she stared at the tears in Chen Wenjin's eyes.
"Can you just cry on demand?" Shen Xiatang asked in shock.
"She is going to be the death of me." Chen Wenjin thought as she tried her best not to break character
"Chen Wenjin only had tea with you and Chen Jinyu in the family hall and after that I headed back for the Chen Residence." Chen Wenjin said as she clinged desperately to Madam Liu's clothes but Madam Liu kicked her away.
"I have no daughter like you." Madam Liu said in spite as Chen Wenjin's parents came to hold her.
"If your well behaved and sensible daughter has nothing to hide, she wouldn't mind that we search her living quarters." Madam Liu said with an evil smile and before Chen Wenjin's mother and father could protest, Madam Liu said "Chen Jinyu."
"Yes Madam Liu." Chen Jinyu said in a respectful tone.
"Lead us to Chen Wenjin's living quarters." Madam Liu said in a firm tone and Chen Jinyu said "Yes" with a smirk.
