Chapter 248 - Chapter 248: Help Humans

The Great Toad Sage deliberately confined the focus of this prophecy to exactly what he needed. He had no intention of gazing upon the future in its vast entirety, a task that would exhaust him and open countless possible paths before his eyes. Instead, he directed his concentration with precision toward the future of Mount Myōboku itself and the best course the toads should follow in the troubled world that had begun to weigh heavily upon him.

The visions gradually began to take shape before him. This time, however, they appeared fragmented, as though some unseen interference was preventing them from becoming completely clear.

The first thing he saw was a series of indistinct figures training in Sage Mode within their sacred land of Mount Myōboku. Numerous different people flashed before him one after another. Their outcomes varied greatly. Some succeeded in mastering Sage Mode and appeared victorious at the end of their moving visions, while others failed and were transformed into stone toad statues.

The visions continued to pass rapidly, allowing him to understand that, in the coming era, humans would continue to seek out the toads, form summoning contracts with them, and attempt to learn Sage Mode. The relationship between humans and the toads would not come to an end. Instead, it would continue and renew itself through different faces and different generations.

After some time, another vision appeared, one noticeably more stable than the previous ones. It showed a young man with white hair whose facial features remained indistinct, yet he radiated vitality. He was training in Sage Mode upon the mountain under the guidance of one of the Sage's descendants.

The visions concerning this young man repeated more often than those of anyone else, making the Great Toad Sage realize that this individual would become extremely important to them and to the future of their mountain. It seemed he would leave a genuine mark upon their history.

Then, something suddenly changed in what he was witnessing. The blue eye upon his forehead shone even brighter, as though something on the other side had pressed against the opened channel, forcing it wider before him.

The same white-haired young man appeared again, but this time he looked strikingly different. Although his facial features were still too indistinct to identify him with certainty, the Great Toad Sage could clearly perceive the difference. His clothing had become light black armor, and even his skin had turned black in this second vision.

Yet what disturbed the Great Toad Sage the most was that the young man seemed to be smiling... as though he had noticed the Sage watching him.

Then, just before the vision changed once again, the Sage noticed the young man's lips move. Although no sound reached him, he was able to read the words from the movement of his lips and fully understand a single sentence before the vision shifted away.

"Help humans."

The vision changed abruptly and moved on to the next.

More visions appeared, this time of a young man with bright golden hair training on their mountain. These visions lasted longer than those of every previous individual and did not pass by as quickly as the others, as though this person occupied a far greater place in the future of Mount Myōboku than anyone else he had seen in this prophecy.

The Great Toad Sage even felt something resembling a strange emotional bond with this lively golden-haired youth, a connection far deeper than anything he had felt toward any of the other people whose futures had passed before him. It was as though his relationship with this young man would be fundamentally different from every relationship Mount Myōboku had ever shared with humanity before.

This made him understand that the future of the toads of Mount Myōboku was tied even more closely to this golden-haired youth than to the white-haired young man he had seen earlier.

Then, just as he was about to end the prophecy as he had originally intended, something completely unexpected occurred.

"This is bad..." he said in alarm. He suddenly felt a disturbance spreading through him from within like a wave beyond his ability to grasp or suppress. He instantly realized that the blue eye upon his forehead had slipped beyond his control, amplifying the prophecy far beyond the limits of what he could manage. At the same time, voices and whispers began gathering around him with terrifying speed, increasing more and more with each passing moment.
