The golden and black threads drifted slightly apart, though they remained intertwined and connected at their very core. Then a chorus of overlapping murmurs spread from the black portion of the threads.
Before it could continue, Dan interrupted.
"You truly are in a dangerous and unstable state."
He had already understood the origin of the spiritual power manifesting before him in the form of those intertwined threads. It was connected to him and to the future that would be shaped by his plans.
He estimated that any other being who heard those murmurs emerging from the black threads would either die instantly or descend into madness, suffering immediate physical and mental corruption, no matter how powerful they were unless they had reached an exceptionally high level of strength capable of enduring such overlapping voices.
"Go on."
The murmurs spread once again, as though trying to explain something to Dan in their own peculiar way. Before they could finish, however, the golden threads interrupted them, radiating a brilliant golden light as if responding in a language of their own. It was as though whatever the black threads had conveyed through their whispers had failed to earn the approval of the golden side.
This exchange continued for some time, the two sides communicating back and forth while Dan silently listened to both. Finally, after what had clearly become a genuine argument with no sign of resolution, he interrupted them in a firm voice.
"That's enough. You two really are troublesome children."
After a brief silence, he continued,
"You both need to understand that I will not interfere in your conflict, no matter how insistently you ask me."
The murmuring from the black side intensified, while the golden light flared brightly from the opposite side at the very same moment. It was a shared response, not one of agreement, but of protest, each expressing itself in its own way.
"Enough. Since you've reached this level, you both understand my personality well. And because my blood flows through your veins, the two of you are my children. That's why I will never choose one of you over the other. Your conflict and whichever of you eventually prevails are of no concern to me. But I will not allow either of you to fade away or die. That is my promise to both of you."
After a short silence following his words, the golden light shimmered gently while the dark threads released another wave of murmurs, as though both had accepted what they had heard, each responding in its own manner.
Dan then turned his attention specifically toward the golden threads.
"Even if you refuse to accept his existence, at least help him a little and ease the madness consuming him. I believe that would benefit you and your own goals as well."
The golden light brightened in response after a brief pause.
"Very well, children. I'm going to sever this connection now. Your existence in this era is... inappropriate."
The murmurs spread once more, while the golden light answered him in return.
"And I'd also like a fragment of each of your powers. I'll be using them for one of my projects."
After a moment, the golden radiance gradually faded until it disappeared completely. The murmurs vanished in the same manner.
"Now that's... truly interesting."
Dan murmured while staring at the threads above his palm, which were no longer intertwined and had finally fallen completely still.
