Chapter 21: Cavalry Battle

The obstacle race had ended. Then the next event was announced.

"AND WITH THAT, THE FIRST ROUND IS COMPLETE! The top forty-two riders will now advance to the second event… the CAVALRY BATTLE! Teams of two to four will compete to steal each other's headbands worth points! The team with the most points at the end wins! You have fifteen minutes to form your teams! Here are the point values!!!"

Students immediately began scrambling, calling out partners and strategizing. Most groups formed into threes and fours, trying to balance speed, defense, and raw power.

Cid didn't even glance around. He turned straight to Yui, who was already standing beside him while pouting and staring at him. "you left me behind"

"It was a race, we were competitors." He replied confused

"Yea but im your girlfriend, I'm supposed to get special privileges." She complained at him.

Cid stood there for a second in thought then nodded "your right, you do, sooooo…"

"wanna team up just us?" he said simply. "It'll be easier that way."

Yui tilted her head, a small smile tugging at her lips. "You sure?"

"Yeah." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't feel like carrying three other people. You good with riding me?"

The words left his mouth and he immediately froze. His brain caught up a half-second too late. Heat rushed to his face.

Yui's eyes widened, then narrowed with mischief. She tapped a finger to her chin, smirking. "How bold, Cid. You should at least wait until we've been dating for a few weeks before asking me something like that."

Cid's blush deepened. He looked away, muttering, "That's not— I meant on my shoulder. For the battle."

Yui's smirk only grew. "Mhm. Sureeee."

Before he could dig himself any deeper, Cid focused. With a single thought his body expanded smoothly, growing until he towered at ten feet tall. He knelt down on one knee so Yui could climb up.

She walked over without hesitation, placing her hands on his broad shoulder for balance. "Kneel a little lower, you're still too tall" she said, voice teasing but soft.

Cid lowered himself further. Yui stepped on his knee then swung her other leg over his neck and settled onto his shoulders straddling the back of his neck, her thighs pressing firmly against the sides of his face and neck. The warmth and pressure were immediate. Cid's hands came up automatically, large palms gently but securely gripping her thighs to hold her steady.

He wasn't going to complain. Not even a little. Nope, not at all.

As he rose back to his full height, Yui leaned forward, her headbands dangling down on either side of his face like dark ribbons and her chest pressing into the top of his head. She looked down at him from above, close enough that he could feel her breath against his hair.

"Ready?" she asked, voice light but with that familiar quiet confidence.

Cid nodded his head slightly, careful not to unbalance her. "How do you want to do this? You want me to just shrink everyone who gets close, or…?"

Yui tapped her finger against her chin, thinking. "No. Just dodge and move around a bit. I already filled my pockets with pebbles beforehand — I'll handle the ranged stuff, I still need to show off for internships. You keep anyone from getting too close. If things get out of hand, you can shrink them all. Sound good?"

Cid nodded once. "Got it."

He started walking forward to get into potion. His hands stayed on her thighs to keep her steady, at first just for balance. Then, unconsciously, his fingers gave a gentle squeeze. A second later he did it again, enjoying the warm, firm feel of her thighs against his palm and the sides of his face.

Yui's breath hitched. She smiled, cheeks turning a soft pink. "Cid… do you like what you're doing right now?"

He blinked, realizing what he'd been doing. For a second he considered playing it off as if he didn't know what she was talking about. Instead he answered honestly, voice low and sincere.

"Yeah. Very much, i like how firm and toned they are."

Yui's face flushed ruby red at how upfront his answer was. She looked away for a second, then leaned down closer, her voice shy but teasing and whispered. "Well… if you win the whole festival… I'll… I'll let you do this all you want back at the dorms."

Cid froze mid-step.

His grip on her thighs tightened just slightly, almost involuntarily. Yui noticed the sudden tension and leaned over even further to look at his face, again her chest pressing softly against the top of his head as she peered down.

She saw pure, burning determination written across his features — the kind of single-minded focus that made it look like their was a fire burning behind his eyes.

Cid's voice came out low, dead serious, and oddly funny in how intense it was.

"I'm gonna win."

Yui blinked, then let out a soft, surprised laugh that turned into a warm smile. She straightened up again, still blushing, but clearly pleased with his reaction.

The Cavalry Battle horn blared across the stadium like a war cry.

Teams exploded into motion. Students scrambled to move, Most eyes turned toward the towering Cid and Yui. With the 1 million points Cid's team was an obvious high-value target and after his speech, everyone wanted a piece of him.

"Here they come," Yui murmured, already pulling a handful of pebbles from her pocket.

Cid stayed planted in the middle of the field, hands still firmly gripping her thighs to keep her steady. "I've got movement. You handle the throwing. I'll keep anyone from getting too close."

The first wave hit fast.

A trio of students from Class 1-B charged straight at them and were the first to get within range. Yui flicked her wrist, and a pebble left her fingers, expanding mid-air into a boulder the size of a small car. It slammed into the ground with a thunderous crack, forcing the team to scatter wildly to avoid being crushed. Another pebble followed, growing into a second barrier that cut off their retreat.

"Nice," Cid muttered, a faint smirk on his lips as he shifted his stance.

More teams poured in. A group student tried to flank from the left, but Yui's next throw shot out 3 pebbles from her hand and created a wall of stone that forced them to abort. She was precise, efficient, enlarging them with the perfect timing needed to disrupt without going overboard and accidentally hurting anyone.

Then the real threats arrived.

Bakugo's team came barreling in like a missile, explosions already popping in his palms. Bakugo himself rode on Kirishima, Sero and Mina.

"YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST STAND THERE, YOU LAZY BASTARD?!" Bakugo roared, launching himself forward with a massive blast. The explosion scorched the ground as he aimed straight for Cid's headband.

Cid didn't flinch. He took one measured step back, the distance between them shrinking in an instant so the blast passed harmlessly overhead. The sudden shift caused Yui to lean forward and hold on, tighter with her thighs pressing against his face. She hurled two pebbles in quick succession, They quickly expanded into massive boulders that forced Bakugo's team to break formation and dodge.

"Damn it!" Bakugo snarled, barely landing back with his team and spinning back toward them. "Stop running and fight me properly!"

On the opposite side, Todoroki's team moved in with icy precision. Todoroki rode on a runner's shoulders, half his body already glowing with frost. A wave of ice surged across the ground, trying to freeze Cid's feet in place. Cid simply expanded the space around him rapidly creating a shockwave shattering the ice.

Yui threw her pebbles again, they grew into a towering pillar that blocked the ice's path and crushed it forcing Todoroki to redirect his team in order to not get crushed. The half-and-half student's eyes narrowed, he was clearly annoyed.

The battle turned into a chaotic dance. Teams swarmed from every direction, but Cid and Yui worked in perfect sync. Cid kept them mobile, shrinking distances to dodge or reposition them, while Yui rained enlarged pebbles that scattered attackers and created makeshift barricades. Her aim was sharp, each throw calculated to disrupt rather than destroy.

For a while it worked. Cid weaved through the chaos while Yui keeping the pressure on them forceing them back. But the numbers were against them. More and more teams converged, boxing them into a corner of the arena.

Bakugo landed hard in front of them, sweat and soot streaking his face, a savage grin splitting his expression. His team closed in on one side, Todoroki's on the other. The rest of the field funneled in, cutting off every escape route.

"Finally cornered you, you damn extra!" Bakugo shouted, palms sparking. "Nowhere left to run! Die!"

Cid looked down at the ring of opponents closing in. His expression didn't change. A slow smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.

Yui leaned down, her chest brushing the top of his head as she whispered, "Cid?"

He didn't answer with words. Instead he simply focused.

One thought.

The distance between them and the far side of the arena collapsed to nothing.

In the blink of an eye, Cid and Yui were gone, reappearing instantly on the opposite end of the field, completely clear of the trap.

Yui screamed at the sudden shift, as she clung to cids head in order not to fall

Bakugo froze then veins started to bulge on his forehead. The entire stadium went dead silent for half a second before exploding into chaos.

"WHAT THE HELL?!" Bakugo roared, spinning around. "GET BACK HERE!"

Todoroki's eyes widened, frost spreading across his left side as he stared at the empty space where they had been.

Yui let out a soft, surprised laugh after watching the scene. She patted the top of his head lightly. " A little warning next time mister Show-off."

Cid just shrugged, hands still securely on her thighs. "They were getting annoying."

The next few minutes blurred into a whirlwind of motion. Explosions lit up the arena as Bakugo's team refused to give up, Kirishima hardening to tank the heat and force from them while Sero tried to tape them down and pull Bakugo back when he launched himself. Todoroki went all-out, half the field turning to frost as he tried to trap Cid's legs. Other teams joined the hunt, sensing an opportunity attacked as well.

But they couldn't catch them.

Every time a group thought they had the pair cornered, they would just slip away

Then the horn blared across the entire stadium.

"TIME'S UP!" Present Mic's voice thundered. "THE CAVALRY BATTLE HAS OFFICIALLY CONCLUDED!"

The massive scoreboard lit up with the final standings.

**1st Place – Cid Kageno & Yui Kodai (Class 1-A) – 1,00,300 points**

(Insert cannon numbers and teams below)

The gap to second place was enormous.

The entire arena exploded in disbelief and cheers. Cameras flashed wildly. Even the commentators sounded stunned.

Yui let out a soft laugh. She leaned down, headbands brushing his hair, and ruffled it gently. "We did it."

Cid slowly shrank back to normal size, carefully lowering Yui to the ground. The moment her feet touched the turf she laced her fingers through his without hesitation. Her cheeks were still faintly pink from earlier, but her smile was bright and proud.

"You were amazing," she said softly, squeezing his hand.

Cid shrugged, the corner of his mouth twitching. "Told you first place was ours."

Present Mic's voice boomed again, barely containing his excitement.

"WITH THE CAVALRY BATTLE COMPLETE, WE WILL NOW MOVE ON TO THE FINAL EVENT OF THE FIRST-YEAR COMPETITION — THE ONE-ON-ONE TOURNAMENT BRACKET! THE TOP SIXTEEN WILL BE DRAWN SHORTLY! GET READY, EVERYONE — THIS IS WHERE IT GETS PERSONAL!"
