"You are awake," Mark said when he walked in to see Nathan getting out of bed.
"Relax, the doctor said you have some broken ribs. You need a lot of rest," He suggested.
"I can't rest at home," Nathan replied.
"They need to make sure you heal properly. You need to stay for at least three days for the doctor to monitor you," Mark explained.
Moments later Felix walked in.
"What is he doing here?" Nathan said as he slowly sat down on the bed.
"I heard you took down your first monster. A golem, not bad," Felix said with a smile.
Nathan did not smile, he recalled how scary the whole situation was. He was grateful to be alive and was not in a hurry to jump back into danger.
"If you are going to keep me here, can you at least try to entertain me," Nathan suggested and got back into bed.
Mark tossed him a book and he caught it. There's more where that came from. He stacked three more at his bedside table.
A nurse suddenly walked in, "Everyone out, he needs to rest."
The nurse yelled then held the door open and waited for Mark and Felix to walk out. She closed the door and gave Nathan some pills to take.
She watched him take them and walked out. Nathan picked one of the books titled The Lore of Alba.
The book read,
In 1286 in a village called Alba, children started to fall sick. Each night children will go to sleep and wake up tired and weak.
Healers tried all they could but could not tell the parents of the children what was happening. A man of the cloth passing through told the people of an evil spirit.
One that could suck the life out of children.
"Lock your windows, and salt your doors. Stop the evil from getting into your homes," the preacher yelled in the streets.
As Nathan read he embodied the preacher. Somehow he was there in Alba, 1286. He could feel the uncivilized wind brush against his face.
The smell of freshly cut grass filled the air. As darkness came Nathan camped at the outskirts of the village. He hoped to confront the evil spirit.
Hours passed with no luck, just as he was about to give up. He heard a woman scream. He ran toward the noise and saw a creature jump out of the window.
It had on a dark cloak and hovered inches above the ground. Fingers like twigs poked out at the edges of the cloak.
As he followed the creature he noticed foot steps appear suddenly.
"It can take the form of a human. This won't be as easy as I thought," Nathan said.
