Chapter 48 - The Trade

"No," Nathan screamed.

"Fine," Amara said and disappeared leaving a cloud of smoke.

Nathan went to dig up the items he buried. The picture was still in there but the sand and the bones had turned to ash.

Nathan poured some of the grave sand into the cloth and added a limb bone from Sara's collection to it.

This time before he planted the items. He drew a devil's trap in the middle of the crossroad. This time Arama arrived in less than a minute.

"Nathan, what is the meaning of this?" Amara asked the moment she arrived.

"Give me a name," Nathan requested.

"What is your plan here?" Amara asked.

"Give me a name of someone higher or I leave you here," Nathan said but Amara chuckled.

She looked at Sara.

"Don't look at her, she won't save you," Nathan advised.

They waited for hours for one another to break.

"What is all this interruption," A voice said in a British accent and Nathan turned around.

A man in a black three-piece suit emerged from the darkness.

"Mister, this does not concern you walk away," Nathan advised as the man walked toward him.

When he got closer, Nathan realized he also had red eyes. Unlike Amara whose entire eye was red. Only his iris glowed red, his pupils were like those of a goat.

Nathan turned to see Amara bowing, and even Sara bowed. Nathan's heart knocked against his ribs.

"Who are you?" Nathan stuttered.

"I'm someone who can solve your problem," the man said to Nathan.

"You can call off the hounds?" Nathan asked.

"No but I can give you a fighting chance," the man explained.

"What would it cost?" Nathan asked.

"Nothing, we will just be trading this," the man put his hands together when he pulled them apart he was holding a knife.

"For that," the man pointed at Saran and Nathan went to stand between them.

"Oh, not her but what she has in her pocket," Nathan explained.

Sara then reached into her pocket and handed the man the key. The man then handed the knife to Nathan. He smiled at Sara and disappeared leaving a red smoke cloud.

Nathan turned to see that Amara was also gone.

'How did he release her from the devil''s trap without touching her?' Nathan thought and knelt by the trap.

After taking a closer look he realized the circle was broken.

"This feels too easy," Nathan said to Sara.

"Take the win," Sara replied.
