It was almost midnight, Nathan's eyes stung and Sara kept yawning.
"We should have gotten a room as I suggested," Nathan said as they walked in the middle of the road.
Nathan heard a ruckus in a bush by the side of the road. He stopped and stared waiting for whatever was in there to get out.
"What?" Sara asked and looked in the same direction.
"I thought.….. nevermind," Nathan said and continued walking. The moment he turned a hellhound jumped out of the bush.
"Watch out," Sara screamed as it pounced at him. He turned and the hound speared him to the ground.
Nathan grabbed its neck as it tried to bite him. He reached for the blade he had tucked into his pants.
He stabbed the hellhound and a current ran through it, illuminating its skeleton for a brief moment.
Nathan then pushed the hound off him and got up. He approached Sara but she flinched.
"Are you all right?" Nathan asked and she nodded.
"More may be coming," Nathan said and waved Sara closer.
They ran but minutes later, they noticed the hounds were on their tail. Nathan kept looking back. He wanted to check if Sara was still following and if they had lost the hounds.
He turned and four of the seven hellhounds were nowhere to be found. They continued running until they ran into the other four.
The spread out surrounding them, they closed the gap as they got closer.
'They are intelligent,' Nathan thought, and pulled out the knife. He looked around trying to tell which was going to attack first.
A random hellhound lunged at them and they ducked. It crunched into another hellhound on the opposite side.
Another pounced at them an Nathan slashed in the belly mid-air. It did not wince or whimper.
It got right up and tried again. This time Nathan stabbed it and like the first one he killed a current ran through it.
"The knife is amazing," Nathan said just before a hellhound lunged at him from behind. Nathan fell and dropped the knife.
Sara ran to grab the knife but a hound crossed her path. It growled at her making her take a step back.
She looked at Nathan and put her hand out. She stared at the knife intensely and it flew right into her hands.
The hound guarding the knife pounced at her knocking her to the ground.
Nathan got up and tried to help Sara but a hound came at him. He kicked it and pulled Sara from under the deadhound. He pulled out the knife from the hellhound.
The other hellhound growled and barked as they got closer. Nathan waved the knife at them and they stepped back.
He then ran as fast as his legs could carry him holding on tight to Sara, carrying her on his back.
They chased him.
