Chapter 27 - Chapter 27 – The Seventh Resonance

___________________

The ruins of Nerathis no longer felt abandoned.

Now—

They felt awake.

The sphere pulsed steadily behind them, its cracks glowing faintly with every wave of energy moving through the chamber.

No longer unstable.

But not complete either.

Dianara stood near the core, studying the floating fragment again while streams of magic circled around her fingers.

"…The synchronization rate increased after the battle."

Lior sat nearby, exhausted.

"…Is that good?"

"It means the system is adapting faster than expected."

She paused.

"…But it also means time is running out."

Mira groaned dramatically from across the room.

"…Can we go five minutes without hearing world-ending news?"

"No," Seraphina replied immediately.

Mira clicked her tongue.

"…You're getting funnier."

Izumi leaned against a broken pillar quietly.

Thinking.

Ever since the fight with Arman and Velkira—

Something felt different.

Not outside.

Inside.

The resonance connection had become stronger.

He could faintly sense the others now.

Not clearly.

But enough to feel emotions.

Presence.

Intent.

And right now—

Everyone felt tired.

But determined.

Ravian stepped toward the center of the chamber.

"…You cannot remain here."

Mira raised an eyebrow.

"…Got any better vacation spots?"

"The Architect already knows this location."

His voice remained calm.

"…Returning here repeatedly increases the chance of a direct assault."

Dianara looked up.

"…He's right."

"…If stronger leaders arrive…"

She glanced at the damaged ruins around them.

"…This place won't hold."

Izumi crossed his arms.

"…Then we move."

Ravian nodded once.

"…And while moving…"

"…we search for the seventh resonance."

Silence fell briefly.

Because now—

The number felt real.

Seven.

Lior looked uncertain.

"…How are we even supposed to find them?"

Ravian looked at the floating fragment.

"…The system will guide us."

Mira frowned.

"…That sounds incredibly unreliable."

But before Ravian could respond—

The fragment moved.

Everyone froze.

The small glowing piece slowly drifted upward—

Then turned.

Toward the darkness beyond the ruins.

Dianara's eyes widened.

"…It's reacting…"

The fragment pulsed once.

Strongly.

Then shot forward.

"…Oi!"

Mira blinked.

"…It's running away!"

Ravian immediately moved.

"…Follow it."

The Path Beyond

The group moved quickly through the submerged ruins, following the glowing fragment as it sped through ancient pathways buried beneath the ocean floor.

Broken statues passed them.

Collapsed towers.

Forgotten halls swallowed by darkness.

But something was strange.

The fragment wasn't moving randomly.

It was following a route.

Dianara noticed it first.

"…These pathways…"

"…They were intentionally constructed."

Ravian nodded.

"…Emergency transit routes."

Izumi looked at him.

"…You know this place well."

"…Paladins are taught fragments of ancient locations."

He paused.

"…But not everything."

Mira smirked.

"…That's suspicious."

"…It's reality."

Deeper Below

The fragment suddenly slowed.

The pressure around them increased heavily.

Even the water felt colder now.

Lior shivered.

"…I don't like this place…"

Neither did Izumi.

Because something was here.

Something alive.

Seraphina's hand moved toward her blade.

"…Presence detected."

The fragment stopped completely.

Hovering before a massive sealed gate covered in ancient symbols.

Dianara stepped closer slowly.

"…These markings…"

Her eyes widened.

"…This is pre-cataclysm era."

Mira looked confused.

"…Meaning?"

"…Older than the current kingdoms."

Silence.

Even Ravian looked surprised.

"…Impossible…"

The gate trembled slightly.

Then—

A voice echoed from behind it.

"…So it finally found me."

Everyone instantly tensed.

The voice was calm.

Young.

But powerful.

Izumi stepped forward.

"…Who's there?"

Silence.

Then—

The gate slowly began opening.

Ancient mechanisms groaned loudly as water rushed through the cracks.

And from the darkness—

A figure emerged.

A girl.

Young.

Probably around Izumi's age.

Long silver-black hair drifted around her in the water.

Her eyes—

Bright crimson.

But what stood out most—

Was the fragment floating beside her.

Another fragment bearer.

Everyone froze.

The girl looked at them calmly.

Then—

At Izumi.

"…So you're the primary resonance."

Izumi narrowed his eyes.

"…You know about the system?"

The girl tilted her head slightly.

"…More than you do."

End Build-Up

The floating fragment near Izumi reacted violently.

Resonating with hers.

The sphere connection inside all of them pulsed instantly.

Strong.

Sharp.

Dianara whispered—

"…No way…"

Ravian's usually calm expression shifted for the first time.

"…She's compatible."

The girl looked at them quietly.

Then spoke one sentence that changed everything.

"…If you came here to complete the system…"

Her crimson eyes darkened slightly.

"…then some of you are going to die."

Silence filled the ancient corridor.

Heavy.

Sharp.

"…What did you just say?"

Mira's voice carried immediate hostility.

Her daggers were already in her hands.

The silver-haired girl didn't react.

Didn't flinch.

"…I said," she repeated calmly,

"…the system was never designed to save everyone."

The tension instantly rose.

Izumi stepped slightly forward.

"…Explain."

The girl's crimson eyes shifted toward him.

Studying him.

Almost like she was confirming something.

"…You really don't know."

Dianara frowned.

"…Know what?"

The girl glanced at the floating fragments around them.

Then—

At the faint resonance lines connecting the group.

"…The deeper the synchronization becomes…"

"…the more your existences overlap."

Lior looked confused.

"…Overlap?"

Ravian's expression darkened slightly.

Like he already understood.

The girl noticed.

"…So the Paladins hid that part too."

Mira clicked her tongue.

"…Oi. Stop talking in riddles."

For the first time—

The girl sighed softly.

"…When resonance reaches completion…"

"…your souls begin linking together."

Silence.

"…Pain."

"…Memories."

"…Emotions."

"…Even death."

Her voice remained calm.

But every word landed heavily.

"…Nothing remains separate forever."

Dianara's eyes widened slowly.

"…That's why the failed attempt collapsed…"

The girl nodded.

"…One person tried to carry the entire burden."

"…The system rejected it."

Izumi crossed his arms.

"…Then why does this system even exist?"

The girl looked at him directly.

"…Because the thing beneath this world cannot be sealed by individuals."

Her Name

Seraphina finally stepped forward.

"…Identify yourself."

The girl stared at her for a moment.

Then answered simply.

"…Astra Noctis."

The name echoed strangely.

Like it carried history.

Mira narrowed her eyes.

"…You've been hiding down here alone?"

Astra shook her head slightly.

"…Waiting."

"…For us?" Lior asked nervously.

"…For the system to awaken."

The floating fragment beside Astra pulsed softly.

Unlike theirs—

Her fragment looked complete.

Stable.

Dianara noticed immediately.

"…That fragment…"

"…it's different."

Astra glanced at it.

"…Because mine never broke."

Silence.

Even Ravian looked shocked.

"…Impossible…"

Astra looked at him calmly.

"…No."

"…Forgotten."

Astra's Power

The pressure around the corridor suddenly shifted.

Not aggressively.

But heavily.

A faint black-red aura spread around Astra's body.

Darkness moved unnaturally around her feet.

Like living shadows.

But within that darkness—

Small crimson lights flickered.

Like stars in a night sky.

Dianara whispered—

"…Void-type mana…"

Mira frowned.

"…Void?"

Ravian answered quietly.

"…One of the rarest forms of magic."

"…Magic connected to space, existence, and dimensional distortion."

Astra looked toward the massive gate behind her.

"…I was left here to guard the final route."

Izumi narrowed his eyes.

"…By who?"

Astra's expression changed slightly.

Not sadness.

Not anger.

Loneliness.

"…The ones who built the system."

The Truth About the Seventh

The corridor trembled faintly.

The resonance between the fragments intensified again.

This time—

Stronger than before.

Lior grabbed his chest slightly.

"…I can feel it…"

Mira's eyes narrowed.

"…Yeah…"

"…She's connected to this more than us."

Astra looked at all of them quietly.

Then—

At Izumi.

"…You've progressed quickly."

"…Faster than expected."

Izumi frowned slightly.

"…Everyone keeps saying that."

"…Because it's dangerous."

Silence.

Astra stepped closer.

The water around her bending unnaturally.

"…The faster resonance grows…"

"…the faster your identities begin merging."

Dianara clenched her fist.

"…Then completing the system could erase individuality entirely…"

Astra nodded once.

"…Eventually."

That hit differently.

Because now—

The danger wasn't only death.

It was losing themselves.

Mira's Reaction

"…That's stupid."

Mira's voice cut sharply through the silence.

Everyone looked at her.

She stepped forward fearlessly.

Directly in front of Astra.

"…If this system turns people into puppets or copies of each other…"

"…then we destroy it."

Astra stared at her quietly.

"…You can't."

"…Watch me."

For the first time—

A tiny smile appeared on Astra's face.

"…You sound exactly like the last resonance holder."

Izumi's eyes sharpened.

"…The failed one?"

Astra's smile disappeared instantly.

"…No."

Silence.

"…The first one."

Final Scene

Everyone froze.

Dianara whispered—

"…There was another complete resonance before this…?"

Astra looked toward the darkness behind the gate.

"…Yes."

The corridor suddenly shook violently.

A pulse spread through the water—

Far stronger than before.

The fragments reacted instantly.

Ravian's expression changed.

"…No…"

Izumi felt it too.

A presence.

Huge.

Awakening.

Astra's crimson eyes darkened slightly.

"…It found us."

Far below the ocean floor—

Something ancient opened its eyes.

And this time—

It was fully awake.
