Chapter 36 - chapter thirty six: unknown package

It was a one-week interactive show that included celebrities from Valeridge City who had gained fame abroad and recently returned to their hometown—movie stars, models, singers, and other public figures.

The show was organized by Arclarie Entertainment Group.

Since it was a subsidiary of Blackwood Dominion Enterprises, everyone could easily guess that it was sponsored by Alexander for Lilian's sake. The program would not only increase her popularity but also attract more brands to work with her as a successful supermodel backed by CEO Blackwood.

I couldn't help but smile bitterly.

Alexander could go this far just for Lilian, while he allowed me to take the fall.

What was the point of holding on to such a marriage?

There was none.

I was still on the call with Aiden.

"This is such a big opportunity for you, Aiden. Congratulations."

Aiden had originally gained his fame abroad, so this show would be a huge comeback for him in the industry here in Valeridge City.

"Thanks, Alicia. I'll let you rest now. Bye."

He hung up.

I continued checking the comments.

Most of the insults had already decreased as people's attention shifted toward the new interaction show.

When I checked my private messages, the insults had also reduced.

However, after expressing their support, some fans still came to my Twitter to provoke me.

One message read:

"Did you see? This is the show CEO Blackwood invested in for Sister Lilian. You, an adopted daughter, dare to act so arrogantly? Once she becomes the wife of the CEO of Blackwood Dominion Enterprises, you'll have to call her Sister-in-law!"

Most of the messages were like that.

No matter how much I tried to ignore them, I couldn't shake off the bitterness and pain in my heart.

The days passed slowly, and my leg gradually healed.

I had already made my decision about our marriage, and there was no turning back.

One morning after breakfast, Maria came to inform me about a delivery.

"Mrs. Blackwood, there's a package for you. Here, take a look."

"A package?" I frowned in confusion. I hadn't ordered anything recently, and I knew Alexander hadn't bought anything either.

Maria looked puzzled.

"Mrs. Blackwood, haven't you made any purchases recently? Could the courier have made a mistake? I checked the label several times, and it definitely has your contact information."

I smiled to ease her concern.

"It's fine. Maybe it's a gift from someone. Let's open it and see."

Maria handed me the package.

I grabbed a small knife and cut through the tape.

But the moment I saw what was inside, my face turned pale.

Without thinking, I shoved the box aside and bent over, fighting the urge to gag.

The contents spilled onto the floor.

It was the bloody body of a white bird, its feathers messy and stained red.

Maria was startled as well, but she quickly regained her composure.

"Mrs. Blackwood, please don't be afraid. I'll clean it up right away."

"Don't clean it up," I said immediately, pinching my nose as I limped away from the bed. "Call the police."

"Alright, I'll call them. Mrs. Blackwood… should I inform Mr. Blackwood?" Maria asked.

I hesitated for a moment.

"He's on a business trip. There's no need to inform him."

"Okay."

Maria immediately called the police.

They arrived quickly and began collecting evidence and recording our statements. They assured us they would find the cause soon.

After the police left, Maria cleaned the living room thoroughly, spraying disinfectant and air freshener several times.

This prank was far too crude.

Using surveillance footage and the entrance records from the security booth, the police quickly traced the courier information and tracked the package back to its sender.

According to the household registration records, the sender was an underage student.
