Chapter 6 - Two At Once?, Which One To Help?

Well it was another interesting day. It started off pretty well, like most of the others do. It was a Friday, the last day of my day shift and I'll go into night next week but the reason this day was quite something is because of what happened during the day.

It goes something like this. I was sitting at the front counter as we usually do, which is the main bar, generally speaking. Smell of coffee. The roar of the grinder. The sounds associated with the cafe, with no music really. It was the sounds of the natural flow of things that we go for here but that's not really what's important; it's what happens next that is quite interesting.

Like I said before I was looking out the door with a clear mind. Next thing I knew two women walked in. I recognised them both. I'd had my eye on them for quite some time, well the visits they had before but now two of them had come in together. I was shocked! Julia, the lady in red, and the beautiful girl in a purple dress, they'd come again. Their hair was in similar length, which was quite interesting! One was blonde and the other had dark hair. I could tell what colour it was and they both had beautiful eyes! Quite stunning!

When trying to look at them both I could not make out the colour of each one's eye. It was almost like they mixed together in a swirl. Blue with brown, brown with green, couldn't quite make it.

Quite an interesting effect in itself! So enters my conundrum! Which do I serve? Do I serve Julia, the lady in red, whose name I know and is a conversation I have yet to have or do I choose the other one who I have never conversed with either? This was the question I had in my head and at the end of the time I had thought, had time to think about this. Someone else beat me to it.

Something I was able to do was sit and wait for another customer and stare at them both. Not once did they turn to me; not once did they notice me. I might have been relieved. Might have been sad. That I was frozen in place, unable to really move. It seemed like the stop in time that had come had been caused by shock really. I had missed my chance to talk to people who seemed to be very uninterested in you. Well very uninterested, let's go with that but that's not really the point yet.

What I can say is it was quite interesting. After they left, at different times, they didn't seem to know each other; they even went in different directions. One went to the left,

and one went the other way and across the road. Jaywalking, can you believe it? I thought you were better than that but I guess people have their own things to deal with.

Did I have another problem? Tim and his bushy eyebrows are back. Not only that I've been assigned night shift, which is when the cafe becomes more of a bar when we serve drinks. That is a problem personally for me. Not one I'm looking forward to, I must say.

One of the setbacks or problems with the cafe becoming more of a bar is that we've got to move this really ridiculously long solid-locking curtain-type thing, which closes in a concertina sort of fashion towards the sides. On it is a mural that hides most of the bar paraphernalia, such as the booze and bar-themed things, and shows a coffee plantation. The back of the cafe counter has more of a cafe feel when this is over the bar style back wall. This has to be moved; it's quite heavy and annoying but once it does all the paraphernalia, fridges and all that, are quite in view. You can see everything that was covered by it, which ironically enough does not include the beer, which is sold during the day. Other drinks are sold from behind the curtain, if you can call it such, but that's not really the issue.

It's the live music being a bar. They expect loud music so there is a lot of music. Now you've got to hear what they want to drink so you have got to lean close to hear what they have to say and that's difficult especially when there are very few. It seems that our place at night only attracts the kind you don't really want to be around because they're not very up into your fun; they're just "oh woe is me" and that is quite a problem. We have enough issues; I mean we have Tim, isn't that enough?
