Chapter 5 - The Lady In Reds Name Is?

After a very pleasing day off my week started again anew. It was quite a nice day until the rain came. It was sunny and warm. I had nothing to complain about; even the walk into work was lovely because there was no one around.

It was utter peace.

I thought today couldn't get any better.

Then I arrived at work and I saw the shift card: no Tim today. I was elated and thought I wouldn't have to see those annoying bushy eyebrows.

It was an immense feeling. I was quite happy. I went to the back, changed into my uniform, and as I came out Lady walked through the door. It was quite a surprise. She looked quite familiar although I wasn't quite too sure where I saw her from but what I could tell is that I had seen her before.

Then it hit me: this was Lady in red.

She came to the counter, tapped her fingers in a rhythmic pattern, and one of the other staff actually saw to her.

It was one of the lady staff. Her name's Norma, not that it means anything really.

She was short, chubby, kind of uninteresting but a lovely personality, although extremely loud. Enough about that.

The interaction with Lady in red was quite interesting. It seemed like they really got on. They were both smiling quite joyfully and happily. I began to wonder: perhaps they know each other; perhaps they don't.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone else coming in so I quickly dealt with him. It was a gentleman in a suit with a god-awful pink tie. How can a man wear a pink tie? That is just terrible taste. I don't understand it. A dark suit with a very bright tie. Why not go with orange or yellow? Have a bit of sense will you?

I was amused about this. I asked for his order and he asked for a simple Americano so I took his money, which is an odd way to do it, and I started making the coffee as ordered. Slowly walked back to the counter gave him his order.

He walked off with his god-awful tie and I looked to the side of me to see if they had finished,I was on the far right of the counter where generally everything is. To the far right we've got a little stand where you have the sugars and extras that you want to add. There's even some weird powders you can put in your coffee. I don't quite know where they are even though I do refill them at times. I just know this one goes in there, that one goes in there, the red one in there, the blue one in there. There's no blue one. I just like to think it's blue because it's kind of boring otherwise.

What I noticed was, while I was walking back (of course let's not forget I'm not staying stationary), they were still talking. No order had been made and nothing. I went up, tapped on the counter, and everything went out there as well and asked, "Is there a problem here?"

With the start the first to speak was Norma, who looked a little shocked that I spoke to her. It's not that rare of an occurrence, is it? I thought to myself and what she said was no problem; "we're just talking, catching up; we've known each other for a while".

Then she proceeded to introduce her and it turns out the lady in red's name was Julia. How interesting. I looked over the counter at Julia and I wondered should I introduce myself but at that moment she asked for a quick coffee, a regular cappuccino, I think it was. She paid me no mind, waited for her coffee by the side of the counter, tinkered with the cup a bit, and then left without a word, leaving me standing yet again like a scarecrow.
