Chapter 15 - Punishment In The Form Of A Blessing

It's still the day after the meeting in the office with the very unpleasant Felix.

Denver was sitting in the break room enjoying coffee as per usual.

He didn't have much to do today considering it was quite quiet but he did have a lot to say, not that he could say it without losing his job.

His own thoughts were wondering what he should do next but he decided against all actions and decided to go back to work.

The moment after he left, he saw Tim go into the break room. He clicked his tongue at Tim's arrival.

Feeling satisfied with his actions, he walked to the counter where Felix was standing, kept his distance from Felix, and turned his back to him, facing the door, completely ignoring the insufferable man, Felix.

The day went by pretty normally; nothing much happened.

They had a few customers here and there, most especially two broken cups. Felix was nearly hit by some random guy who was angry about the price even though he did ask for a lot of things and he complained when he got the bill. How strange, although Felix deserved it so It was fine, so Denver was fine with it.

Denver sat at his desk; Denver sat at the counter with his high chair while the place was quiet; everyone else was in the break room. That's when the insufferable Felix returned again, facing Denver from the other side of the counter, acting like a customer. He said, "Good evening, I'm leaving; you're locking up. Bye," and left. A stunned Denver thought, "What a jerk!"

I didn't really do anything much after that. You just continue the shift as you would around a certain time.

He pulled back the concertina, revealing the bar section, and started to prepare for the nighttime shift.

Turns out he was doing a double today, which was meant to be the shift that Felix was supposed to take because he wasn't meant to come in during the day. One of the other employees was ill; her name was May. She was a short chubby girl with dark hair and very long hair at that too. Although the tips were always dyed blonde and she always had her hair in three loose ponytails, which never made any sense, she was a jovial character nonetheless, far more pleasant than Felix! It was getting late into the evening and the shift was nearly over.

In walked a lovely lady with red hair, long luscious red hair. She had very inviting eyes; they were green and beautiful. Seeing her, Denver's heart quickened as memory strapped back in his mind. He remembered the night he locked up last and the lady he met outside. The lady who said "See you soon", the lady who had caused him to feel very disappointed for a very few days, for a very good few days. She was also the one he wanted to see among four. You couldn't have a choice whether to see her the most but he was very happy to see her now.

Despite the locale and the time, it was very quiet in the cafe at this time, with the bar set up in full swing. He didn't mind. She came right up to the counter and looked Denver straight in the eyes. Denver tried to look back but his heartbeat was going too strong and he stepped back and looked away. The girl with red hair smiled with her wicked grin and she said slowly in a seductive tone, "My my, are we nervous? Am I that beautiful? Does my appearance please you so much? You're blushing." She even leaned over the bar a little bit to get closer to the retreating Denver.

The smile on her face widened. Her eyes had an expression of glee. She was definitely playing with him.

Denver replied, "Yes well I"

Then he quickly got back on track and asked, 'Good evening ma'am, what can I get you?'"

She laughed, and put a hand in front of her mouth, as though placing a hand in front of her face to move forward for a high five with her hand and her face.

She was laughing quite enjoyably; then she said, "Sorry for my teasing but I couldn't help it. You look so cute with your nervous face. That expression made me want to play with you," saying this in a very seductive tone made Denver's heart beat harder. He could feel his face flushing and his ears turning crimson.

He hadn't noticed yet but he'd taken another step back and was actually standing in the middle of the space between the wall and the counter.

She looked down into the space between the counter and said,

"It's rude to step back from a lady, you know, especially one that needs her coffee fix."

She said while leaning onto the counter with her head leaning on her hand that's on the counter, head tilted to the right slightly. She smiled, opened her eyes after closing them up again, and said almost in a whisper, "Hey, come closer."

Denver had stopped in his tracks completely. He was unsure what to do. He could hear his heartbeat and feel his heartbeat as it pounded and pounded on. He couldn't move. He was unsure what to do. He looked at her face. He then looked away to hide his blushing face.

He somehow found the strength in him to take a step forward and managed to mutter out "about that coffee fix": "What can I get you?" He tried to sound as confident as he could but it came out very timid and based on the look on her face she thought it was cute.

She asked for a macchiato and some biscuits and she did so with flair. Then he quickly walked away to try to calm his head and started making the coffee very quickly while the machines were doing their thing. He went to the counter and grabbed the biscuits. He remembered he'd run off so quickly, that he forgot to ask her "what kind of biscuits she wanted." When he turned to look at her she said, "Chocolate, three and one biscotti." Her quick reply was a relieving factor to poor Denver.

He was unsure what to do.

Her eyes were on him like a cat eyeing her prey.

The thought of her eyes being on him made him nervous to no end. His hand shook as he reached forward into the cupboard to grab the biscuits, three chocolates and one biscotti.

Holding the biscuits in hand, unsteady as they were, he didn't drop anything until two steps later when he dropped the biscotti. He looked at her and he could feel the colour draining from his face. "I'm sorry, I'll get you another one."

He quickly turned around to hide his expression and dove back into the cupboard as quickly as he could to grab another biscotti.

He was trying so quickly to get back to the counters to give her biscuits. He actually tripped on his own feet and landed with a thud into the counter. His armpits actually slammed into the counter but the biscuits were safe, though his armpits were stinging and his chest was stinging from the edge of the counter smashing into him or him into the counter, depending on how you want to look at it. This winded him a bit and he couldn't quite get up. The intense pain, the embarrassment, the shock, and that feeling you get when it feels like everything is in pain after tripping. Though the dull ache was fading he could not get up, considering he was winded.

After he caught his breath he stood up.

He didn't even look at her; he just turned to grab the coffee. He grabbed a small see-through glass saucer, put it on a small tray with a stick of sugar crystallised to give it a bit of flair, and the small glass of macchiato then walked towards her, trying to be calm but his hand betrayed him. It was shaking. He had to hold the cup with two hands and keep a finger on the base of the sugar stick so it didn't go flying. Then he sat it in front of her and in this moment the lady with red hair reached forward and grabbed him on the shoulder and asked, "Are you okay? It looks like it really hurts. Why didn't you say anything?" "If you're hurt it's ok to say so", she said sweetly.

Denver couldn't quite look at her; he just looked at the counter and said, "No, I'm fine." He stammered when he said it. He was really unsure what to do. She asked, "How much do I owe you?" Denver quickly looked at the system, added the parts together, and then gave her the price, which she paid promptly. While giving her the change she grabbed onto his hand and held on to it. She looked into his eyes and told him her name was Melanie. She said it like this: "My name's Melanie. What's yours sweetie?" After she said this in this way, poor Denver was shocked and unsure what to do. All he could do was look down and say, "It's Denver." When he said it like that, the poor fella must have really been nervous.

She giggled at this and then she said, "Well Denver, it's been very nice to meet you. See I did keep my promise I'll be back and this won't be the last you see of me." She walked away to one of the tables, set her coffee down with the biscuits, and decided to relax. Every now and then she'd look back at Denver and the third time she did she winked.

Denver thought his heart would stop. He couldn't stop thinking about the lovely Melanie.
