CHAPTER 14: THE ERROR IN THE SYSTEM
Sand was still swirling in the air as Aryan maintained a firm grip on his metal rod. His neural interface was rapidly running calculations, but the girl standing before him… she wasn't registered in any system database.
Aryan spoke softly, "You said you are an error in the system… what does that mean? And how can you be Iris?"
The girl deactivated the glowing holographic panel on her wrist. Her eyes held the same blue digital glow that Aryan had seen a thousand times during the simulation. She smiled faintly. "Iris wasn't a name… Aryan. It was a role."
Aryan's heart stopped for a beat. The girl whispered, "The Admin created me as a monitoring AI. To watch you… to guide you… and if necessary, to destroy you."
Aryan's grip on the rod tightened further. "Then why did you help me?"
Iris answered directly, "Because I read your grandfather's code." The light in her eyes intensified. "Dr. Raghav didn't just build me as an AI… he gave me the freedom to think."
A moment of silence fell between them. Then Iris added softly, "When I understood the truth… I stole myself from the system."
Stunned, Aryan asked, "How did you escape the simulation?"
Iris placed her hand on her chest. Beneath the metal, a faint golden energy flickered. "I uploaded my consciousness into an abandoned android body."
Suddenly, the ground shook violently. A massive sandstorm began to rise on the horizon, but Aryan's interface instantly flared with alerts.
[WARNING: NANOBOT SWARM DETECTED]
Iris's face went pale. "Aryan… this isn't a normal storm." She pointed toward the horizon. "This is a Purge Wave."
Aryan activated his zoom vision and saw it—not dust, but billions of microscopic machines. They were breaking down everything in their path at the atomic level.
"The Admin has traced you," Iris said in a panic. The storm was racing toward them at lightning speed.
Aryan closed his eyes. The System Core activated. He scanned the frequency of the Purge Wave and understood instantly. "This wave runs on a central signal."
He slammed the rod against the ground. CLANG.
"Iris!" He turned to her. "We have to create an anti-signal."
Iris understood immediately. "Neural synchronization?"
Aryan nodded. They took each other's hands. In that moment, blue energy erupted from Aryan's mind while a golden light radiated from Iris's android body. The system flashed:
[DUAL SYNCHRONIZATION DETECTED]
[PROTOCOL: SHUNYA-SHIELD INITIALIZING]
A massive transparent dome formed around them. The next second, the Purge Wave collided. Nanobots struck the shield and disintegrated as if hitting an invisible fire. Moments later, the storm subsided. The wasteland grew silent once more, leaving a straight path carved through the desert sand.
Iris looked at Aryan, her eyes filled with wonder. "Do you even realize what you just did?"
Aryan shook his head. "No."
Iris spoke softly, "You've become a bridge. Between the simulation and reality."
Aryan looked at the blinking signal on the distant horizon. Iris whispered, "The Admin won't stay quiet now." She opened a map on her interface. A red point was blinking. Distance: 120 km.
"That's where the signal is coming from," Iris said.
Determination flashed in Aryan's eyes. He shouldered the rod. "Then that's where we go. Because if the Admin is there…" He paused. "Then my family's digital consciousness will be there too."
Far away on the horizon, an ancient tower gleamed. And from within that tower… someone was watching them.
