(This chapter will be from the POV of David Conoway, The Head of Conoway Family)
It was past 9:30 am, and I was in the office, thinking about what to do now and how to manage and then, a co-worker broke my train of thoughts.
"David, you up for some coffee and a smoke?"
It was Mitch, Mitch Mcgregor, an office colleague and kind of my work best friend I might say.
"I was thinking the same, man"
I stood up from my chair and both of walked to the coffee dispenser and with hot cups of coffee on both our hands, we walked up to the smoking area of the office.
Mitch took a sip and a drag of the just lit cigarette and said "So, David, I see you tensed…. Is there something you're worrisome about?"
"You caught me, man…. It's the same old stress…. You know I married young and now our expenses are shooting up"
"Yeah and you got yourself two kids on top of that"
A took a long breathe and stared at the sky above us. I love my family and I'm ready to give everything I have for them to be happy, it's what a man is supposed to do, but, sometimes I pray to God to please look after me also.
"I figure your salary isn't keeping up with the expenses and you're worried if you're going to be in debt forever"
"If you stop spouting the obvious and start with some solutions, it'd be better for me"
I faked a smile, trying to mask the stress and anxiety I had built over the years.
Mitch works in the same cadre as me and we earn almost the same remuneration but there is one key difference between us, Mitch is a bachelor and I'm not. The salary of an accountant is more than enough for a bachelor but a tight one for a married guy. A bachelor will live like a king, while, a married man will struggle to make ends meet.
"For the time being, my only advice to you is - this too shall pass"
"Going spiritual on me, I see"
"That is the only thing you can do now because you, my friend will need a miracle soon"
He is not wrong at all and I do need a miracle in my life, I didn't know the miracle I need will come by very soon, but, I didn't expect it'd come with a condition, I guess everything in life comes with a price.
"We better hurry back to our desks or our boss will fire us"
"Roger that, Lieutenant Mitch"
We gulped down coffee and dragged our cigarettes a little faster than usual and we rushed back to our desks.
It was 12:30pm, when the Secretary of our Boss, Miss.Rendoz, made an announcement via the office speaker.
"MR.DAVID CONOWAY, YOU'VE BEEN SUMMONED TO THE BOSS'S OFFICE IMMEDIATELY…. WHEREVER YOU'RE REPORT TO THE BOSS'S OFFICE ASAP"
Mitch raised his seat to look at me over the cubical walls, as soon as, he caught my eyes, he asked me with his facial expression "What did you do this time", I replied "nothing"
Then I made my way to the Boss's office.
