Chapter 87 - Putting On A Show

Jon Smit's fist slammed into the demon, sending it flying into the air. As its wings twitched, Jon Smit moved his aura to stop it from moving, effectively making a wall.

The creature's elongated body slammed into the wall, knocking the air out of its lungs.

Wasting no time, Jon Smit leapt from the ground and struck the creature in the side of its large head.

Using his momentum and the angle of the punch, he dragged the creature along the wall made from his aura and threw the creature to the floor.

Jon Smit crossed his arms and began to plummet back down to the ground, his eyes staying locked on the demon that was once his employee.

Why is this one so strong? It took two hits just to break its neck. Could it be like last time?

Oh well, it will be up again in a moment, so I'd better just continue to put on a show. When it comes down to the final moments, I'll hijack its brain and ask it the question.

Landing on the ground with a thud, Jon Smit launched from where he was standing towards the demon, which was fixing its neck.

With a crack, the neck was back to normal.

The creature turned to look at the encroaching man and swung its claw down at him.

Jon Smit dodged the attack that seemed to cut the light around it, leaving only a shadow that was then filled with light once again.

Oh, I see.

The demon clenched its hand and then threw something at the attacking Jon Smit.

His fist slammed into the creature while a small ball of light shot through the air heading towards his stomach.

The speed was not much faster than a professional baseball pitch, so Jon Smit caught it.

Damn, that's really heavy; good thing I coated my hand before I caught it. Now to look super cool... got it.

Jon Smit once again launched the demon back; then, turning his body, Jon Smit dislocated his arm as he threw the heavy ball of light.

It soared through the air and collided with the demon, carving a hole through its chest.

The hole was then covered by light and disappeared.

Looks like I was right; it's like the other one... I have a bad feeling.

Jon Smit straightened his body and then rolled his shoulder, reattaching the dislocated joint.

Jon Smit raised his left arm and motioned for the creature to attack him.

The demon snarled and then flapped its wings, flying into the air.

"Much less of a bird and more like a bug."

Jon Smit raised his right arm and swatted the air; an invisible force then collided with the demon, smashing it out of the air and into the ground, where a cloud of dust and sand erupted.

Perfect.

Jon Smit dashed into the smoke screen and, using his aura, kept the dust from moving. He located the mangled demon and grabbed its head with his hands, then kicked the arms and legs off with ruthless efficiency.

Jon Smit then pressed his middle fingers into the sides of the demon's head and broke through its skull.

"You might not know this, Mr Angel of Light, but I could've been a brain surgeon if it wasn't for your kind. For example, if I were to do this to your hippocampus, and this to your cerebellum, then follow it up with this final step to your motor cortex, then you'd tell me everything I'd need to know."

Jon Smit moved his aura around his fingers and then into the brain of the demon, following the steps he described.

Then the demon began to speak.

Jon listened, and slowly he began to grit his teeth.

***

Lucian stared at the cloud of dust with a look of confusion.

What did Mr Jon Smit do, and where is he?

Lucian started to stand when the dust spiraled, then cleared.

At the center of the dust stood a man in a suit and tie with a pair of glasses, the lenses of cartoon eyes.

Staring at the man, Lucian noticed the upper torso of the demon and the head, which had the man's hands holding it up, his middle finger pressed inside it.

Ania leaned over to Lucian.

"Blondie, who is that?"

"I have no idea. Where did Jon Smit go? He disappeared into the dust, and now this random man is here."

As Lucian scowled, he looked at the man who was now closer to him and noticed something on his lapel.

A name tag, but why?

With some confusion, Lucian read the name to himself.

"Jon Smit."

Lucian's eyes widened as he stood up from his seat; Ania looked confused, then stood up with him.

Lucian opened his mouth and shouted.

"JON SMIT KILLED THE DEMON!!!"

After that, everyone in the audience began to stand up, placing their hands to their chest, making an L with their index and middle finger.

The audience began to cheer and chant his name, some even using the motto of the Crimson Cross.

"LIVE LONG, JON SMIT!"

Cheers rolled in over Jon Smit.

However, Jon Smit was in no mood.

A deep shadow was cast over his face, the glasses obscured his furious eyes. Then he raised his head and spoke.

"THERE IS A WAR COMING. ALL THOSE WHO HAD WON AND ALL THOSE WHO HAD NOT, PREPARE FOR THE COMING DAYS; SEVENTY PERCENT WILL BE GOING TO THE FIRST LAYER OF HELL WHILE THE OTHER WILL BE SENT ON A DIFFERENT EXPEDITION. THE GROUPS WILL BE PROVIDED TOMORROW FOR BOTH THE HELLBOUND AND THE SCOUTS."

With that, the audience went silent; then slowly they stood up and left the coliseum, as if immediately understanding the urgency of Jon Smit's declaration.

Lucian stood up, a look of terror in his eyes.

"NO, not yet. It wasn't supposed to..."
