Chapter 21 - chapter 21: Shadows Gather.

The evening air was heavy, tense, vibrating with the distant howls of wolves I hadn't seen yet. Lucien and I returned to the fortress, but my mind couldn't rest. Every shadow seemed alive, watching, waiting for the moment to strike.

"Another pack?" I asked.

"No," Lucien said. "Something bigger. Powerful. They've heard of you now… of what you can do. And they're coming."

I swallowed, heart hammering. The mark on my neck pulsed faintly, warm and alive. Every Alpha, every pack within sensing range would know soon. My existence was no longer quiet. It was a warning.

Kaiden had retreated into the forest, but I felt him. Possession, calculation, and anticipation. I could almost hear his wolf pacing, measuring the distance between us.

"You feel him?" I whispered.

Lucien nodded. "Yes. And he's thinking. Always thinking."

The mark flared suddenly, white-hot, warning me. Danger approached faster than we anticipated. Figures moved through the valley below, larger than rogue wolves, faster, coordinated. They were coming not to negotiate—they were coming to test me.

I gritted my teeth. "Then let them try."

Lucien's hand brushed mine. "Remember, fear is a tool, but control is your weapon. The mark is not just power. It's a signal. Let it speak."

The first shadow moved closer. I raised my arms instinctively, and light surged from the mark, whipping through the valley. Wolves scattered, yelps of surprise echoing across the trees.

I realized then what Lucien had meant: my power wasn't just for survival. It was influence, dominance, and declaration.

Kaiden watched from the edge of the forest, expression unreadable. Possession flickered in his gaze, and I knew he recognized the force I had become. Not an Omega. Not weak. Dangerous. Independent.

And for the first time, I understood: this war wasn't just external. It was the storm within me.

I was ready.
