"You think I'm an idiot to tell you that?"
I shot back, quickly pulling out my phone. Before I could even unlock it, Daniel snatched it from my hand and tossed it onto the far side of the bed with a dull thud.
He stood right in front of me, his tall frame casting a shadow over the mattress.
"Why didn't you try to run instead of calling me? It was a perfect chance to disappear."
"It was a good chance,"
I admitted, my voice quieter than I wanted.
"But I realised I had nowhere to go. So I called you."
I had thought about it, running far away, changing my name, vanishing completely. But deep down I knew it was pointless. If Daniel could make me his wife without my consent, finding me again would be nothing to him.
I slowly lifted my gaze and met his dark eyes. In that moment, something clicked. I finally understood why my resistance always crumbled the second he touched me.
Because my mind had already surrendered.
