Lily Carter had never imagined that her first job would begin with judgmental stares, whispered laughter, and strangers examining her from head to toe as though she didn't belong.
Yet there she stood inside Blake Industries, officially hired as Lavinia Hayes's assistant.
She hadn't truly been given a choice. Refusing would have meant losing the opportunity she desperately needed — and breaking the promise she had made to Adrian Blake.
Simone and Pamela wasted no time expressing their opinions.
"Are those… pom-poms on your sleeves?" Simone asked, barely hiding her amusement.
Pamela glanced at Lily's sandals. "And those shoes? Seriously?"
Lily smiled politely, though doubt flickered briefly inside her. For a moment, she wondered if stepping into this glittering corporate world had been a mistake.
Then a memory surfaced — Adrian's cold gaze, the humiliation she had endured, and her impulsive promise.
I will repay every penny.
The thought steadied her.
Strangely, the very man who intimidated her had become the reason she found courage. She straightened her shoulders.
"Yes," she murmured softly to herself. "I can do this."
---
"I need to make a phone call," Lily told Simone politely.
In the office, Adrian Blake was already on the phone, issuing sharp instructions. Though far apart, their lives seemed quietly connected — moving toward each other without their knowledge.
Back at reception, Simone asked casually, "What's your full name again?"
Lily smiled brightly.
"Lily Carter."
She arranged her small workspace carefully, placing a tiny statue of Goddess she worshipped on her desk.
"This will help," she whispered.
The invisible thread of fate seemed to rise upward — beyond her desk, beyond the busy office floor — to Adrian sitting inside his glass cabin above, unknowingly positioned directly over her workspace.
Two lives aligned without awareness.

At Greenwood Manor, curiosity ruled the evening.
Grandmother Eleanor examined a bouquet of red flowers that had arrived earlier, the attached card reading: For my love.
Angela Blake frowned. "Who sent these?"
Grandmother Eleanor's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "This 'Hayes'… I intend to find out."
Angela quickly called Adrian.
"What happened?" he asked immediately.
She explained about the flowers, and concern crossed Adrian's face. The powerful businessman who commanded entire boardrooms suddenly sounded like a grandson worried about family misunderstandings.
Despite his confident exterior, Adrian still hid parts of his personal life from his grandmother.
Soon after, Grandmother Eleanor entered Adrian's room searching for clues. Mariana Blake gently reminded her that it was Adrian's private space, but Eleanor dismissed the concern.
"It is my grandson's room," she said firmly. "I may enter whenever I wish."
Privacy rarely existed inside Greenwood Manor.

Back at Blake Industries, Lily's first unexpected encounter arrived through a ringing phone.
She picked it up quickly.
"Hello?"
"Why did it take so long to answer?" a sharp male voice demanded.
Lily blinked, startled by the tone.
Instinctively touching her pendant, she gathered courage.
"You should speak respectfully," she replied calmly.
There was silence.
Adrian Blake stared at his phone, stunned. No employee had ever spoken to him like that.
"What?" he asked, confused.
Lily leaned closer to the receiver, lowering her voice slightly.
"You know… your voice sounds very familiar."
Irritation mixed with curiosity as their argument unfolded naturally — neither realizing they were speaking to the very person who occupied their thoughts.
---
Moments later, Adrian strode into Lavinia Hayes's office, his expression tense.
"Did you send flowers to Greenwood Manor?"
Lavinia looked genuinely shocked. "No! Of course not. I know what you like and dislike — I would never do something you hate."
But Adrian wasn't listening anymore.
His attention had shifted.
Toward Lily's desk.
Toward the small statue placed carefully beside her files.
He moved closer unconsciously, drawn by something he could not explain.
Lavinia continued nervously, "AB, you believe me, right? Say something at least!"
"Yeah… okay," he replied absentmindedly, barely hearing her.
His gaze remained fixed on the statue.
"What is that?" he asked quietly.
Lavinia glanced over dismissively. "Oh, that? Just my new assistant's things."
A new assistant.
Adrian looked again at the statue, a strange sense of familiarity stirring inside him.
Could it be…?
Downstairs, Lily continued arranging papers, unaware that destiny had just pulled their worlds closer once again.
And somewhere beyond coincidence, fate continued writing the promise already sealed between them.
