Lily Carter's first days at Blake Industries were far more exhausting than she had imagined. Every task felt like a test, every mistake magnified under watchful eyes. After Simone scolded her sharply for something she hadn't even caused, Lily walked away quietly, trying to steady her emotions.
As she wandered through a quiet corner of the office, her eyes suddenly lit up.
A small statue of Devi Ma stood tucked near a shelf.
Relief washed over her face. "You're here too," she whispered happily.
Without thinking, she lit a small diya before the statue, folding her hands in prayer — completely unaware of the fire alarm fixed just above it.
---
At that very moment, Adrian Blake stood confidently with Lavinia Hayes, finalizing an important business deal with clients.
Adrian adjusted his cufflinks, calm and assured. "Nothing ever goes wrong here," he said smoothly.
The sentence had barely left his lips when a loud alarm blared through the building.
Red lights flashed.
Seconds later, sprinklers burst to life.
Water rained down across the office floor, soaking files, furniture — and Adrian's perfectly tailored suit.
He froze, disbelief written across his face as chaos erupted around him.
Far away in the corridor, Lily stared upward in horror as water poured over her.
"Oh no…"
One tiny diya had undone the perfect order of Adrian Blake's world.
Nothing moved without destiny's permission — whether he believed it or not.
---
Later that afternoon, Lily's phone rang.
"Hello?"
"It's me," came Samuel Morgan's voice.
She frowned. "How did you get my number?"
"From your job application," he replied casually.
Lily felt uncomfortable but remained polite. She mentioned her difficult day and casually shared that Aunty Margaret's pension had stopped.
Samuel immediately offered help. "I'll look into it."
That evening, Samuel appeared at the Carter home without warning, pushing the door slightly open and peering inside.
Aunty Margaret nearly jumped in shock. "Excuse me! Who are you?"
Her suspicion was immediate.
"You saw a pretty girl and followed her home, didn't you?" she snapped.
Samuel quickly explained himself, reminding her that he had once helped Lily. His polite manners and carefully chosen words softened her resistance. Within minutes, he had gained her trust — and astonishingly, an offer to stay in the spare room.
A slow, calculated plan had begun to unfold, though no one realized it yet.
---
Back at Blake Industries, Lily returned through the underground parking area, munching happily on berries she had bought from a street vendor.
Spotting a sleek white car, she leaned casually against its bonnet, using it as a table while eating.
The familiarity felt natural, as if she had every right to be there.
Suddenly, a strange sensation made her look up.
Someone was approaching.
Her eyes widened.
Adrian Blake.
She quickly hid behind a pillar before gathering courage. I need his address… I must return his money.
Muttering a quick prayer for patience, she stepped forward.
Adrian reached his car and noticed berries scattered across the bonnet. His expression darkened instantly. With one irritated motion, he brushed them away.
"What are you doing?" Lily burst out, rushing forward. "Those were mine!"
He turned sharply. "Not today," he warned coldly. "Don't argue with me today. It won't end well."
He meant it as a warning — an attempt to keep distance while everything in his life spiraled out of control — but Lily heard only arrogance.
"I don't want to argue," she shot back. "Just tell me where you live."
His eyes narrowed. "Couldn't get into my wallet, so now you're trying to reach my house?"
The accusation stung.
"Keep your money!" she snapped. "I repay every debt. I only need your address to return it."
Adrian paused, unexpectedly thrown off balance.
He sat inside the car, pretending to start it though the engine remained silent, watching her carefully.
"Where will you get that much money?" he asked quietly. "Trapped someone else?"
Their eyes locked.
Neither looked away.
---
Lily turned to leave — only for her dupatta to catch on the car's side mirror.
She tugged at it helplessly.
"Which idiot gave you a job?" Adrian muttered under his breath.
"I won't let you insult my boss!" she fired back, still struggling.
For a moment, neither spoke.
He watched her, irritation slowly giving way to something softer — something he refused to name.
With an exasperated sigh, Adrian stepped out, walked around the car, and freed the fabric in one sharp motion, tearing it loose.
The sound echoed between them.
He returned to his seat without apology, driving away with a final angry glance.
Lily stood frozen, clutching the torn edge of her dupatta, tears forming in her eyes.
"Why, Devi Ma?" she whispered softly. "Why do I keep running into this man again and again? What do you want from me?"
---
Despite their constant clashes, there was something undeniable between them.
Lily never feared Adrian the way she felt uneasy around Samuel. With Samuel, she remained polite and guarded. With Adrian, she argued fiercely, fearlessly — as though they stood on equal ground.
And perhaps that was the truth neither of them yet understood.
Fate had already chosen its path.
No matter how hard Adrian tried to control his destiny… it kept leading him back to Lily.
