I had taken the day off to arrange the pack tour for my wife. She was all nerves and barely contained excitement when I told her about it over breakfast — fidgeting, asking questions, fidgeting some more.
"Do you think they'll like me?" she asked. We had just come back upstairs to get ready.
"Why shouldn't they?" I frowned at her. "They have no reason not to."
"Okay." She nodded, worrying her fingers together. "Okay."
I sighed and crossed the room to her, taking her face in my hands. "They have no reason not to like you, little rabbit. And I'll be right there with you the entire time."
She leaned into my palms. "You know, I thought you'd be cruel."
I laughed shortly. "I am cruel."
She shook her head. "Not to me. The day we married, you said you weren't kind."
"I wasn't." I lifted a shoulder. "You brought it out of me."
"Oh, please." She rolled her eyes, and the urge to kiss her came so swiftly and with so little warning that I had to physically step back from it.
