Chapter 20. RIVALS
It was an amazing feeling, the red lightning coursing through his body. It felt new and better yet, he felt the sudden increase in his speed and agility.
"I guess it's the first time you're using your element, come at me then, let me educate you"
Lunar said and he dashed with incredible speed.
Roman raised his katana to block a strike, but it never came. Lunar had dashed to the side at the last minute, sending a kick at the back of his leg.
Roman got swept off his feet and landed on his back, then quickly rolled to the right, letting Lunar's blades strike at his previous spot.
"Two can play that game"
Roman frowned. He let the lightning surge around his body and then to his legs.
He dashed with immense speed reaching Lunar in an instant with an horizontal slash.
Lunar blocked with one blade and dashed away, putting a gap between them, but Roman persisted ,chasing after him.
It became a race.
Their bodies were blur, leaving red and purple streaks in their wake.
CLANG..
CLANG....
CLANG.....
They sped around the mountain top as the sound of steel resounded with each successions of blade crossed. Roman had gotten used to the speed yet Lunar was still faster, he used his twin sword like an extension of his body, pure skill.
Roman wasn't as skilled, but he's in born battle instinct was top notch. He would block when it matters and strike when necessary.
Soon, the top of the mountain became to small for these quickers.
From afar, a red and purple streak of lightning was seen running down the mountain wall .
Lunar led while Roman chased, totally ignoring the destructive weather around them.
"He's too fast"
Roman smiled.
He channel the lightning into his sword and released a red slash from the tip of the blade.
Lunar sensed destruction behind him.
This attack was different not like the usual strikes. This one was imbueded with lightning, so it came fast.
The lightning strike destroyed parts of the mountain wall as it chased after it's prey.
Lunar suddenly took a dramatic pause, then jumped off the mountain wall, letting the strike passed beneath him.
Close one'
He let himself fall for a while and as soon as his legs touched the mountain wall, Roman was by his side with a smirk.
Roman paused, spun his body and delivered a kick to Lunar's chest.
It had happened in a blink leaving no time to counter.
Lunar gasped as the he felt the impact. His feet left the rough wall again as he crashed into the mountain with force.
BAM!

Derrick stood at the edge of the mountain as he watched the two boys go. They were fast for the normal eyes to see , and they were blured, yet Derrick saw them in slow motion....the mysterious grin never left his face.
"He's a strong kid, dont you think, Reyna"
Derrick said.
A beautiful figure suddenly appeared beside him.
Clad in a slim pure white gown with long white hair and pristine skin, Reyna smiled as she watched her son.
"Just like his father"
She said.
"I don't see why you can't train him yourself"
He looked at her.
She sighed
"I would have loved to, but you know I have something important to take of"
Derrick nodded.
"Sure, I got you"
"Thank you Derrick"
They become silent as they watch the two boys fight without holding back, they fought with such passion.
"Do you think Ray is watching"
Derrick spoke as he gaze into the sky.
Lunar exhaled
"I'm sure he is"
She smiled.

Lunar and Roman clashed blades forth and back, and before they knew, they had reached the foot of the mountain.
Dust cloud filled the air as they took a dramatic pause.
They both breathed hard, sweat running down their face, few bruises and bleeding cuts, yet they smiled .
They were tired , yet enjoying themselves.
"I'm not tired one bit "
Lunar breathed hard
"Are you?"
Roman chuckled.
"Not one bit"
It was an obvious lie coming from both of them.
Roman's breath was also rough.
"I'm sure you're already low on energy"
Lunar said.
"And you too "
Roman replied.
Beast Masters with elemental affinity uses more spirit energy to unleash their elements.
Roman and Lunar had been fighting for a long while, so they were almost spent.
"How about we make our final strike here"
Lunar declared
Roman smiled
"Are you sure you can take my strike head on, girl"
"I like your pride, bring it, kid!"
Lunar's purple energy suddenly surge upwards, covering one side of the surrounding. The head of a wolf appeared, howling into the sky before flowing into his swords.
He was serious.
Roman smirked. He held his katana firmly with both legs spread apart. His red energy suddenly burst and covered the other side of the environment. Massive streaks of lightning mixed with his aura and into his sword.
They both looked at each others eyes and one cue..
BOOOM...
They destroyed the ground in their wake as they met in the middle for a collision.
Lunar swung both blades in a vertical slash...
Roman swung his katana in an horizontal slash..
Then...
BOOM!
Both energies collided causing a massive destruction. The rough ground compressed and sunk in itself, rocks and debris scattered all over creating dust which mixed with the smoke.
For Beast Cubs, the amount of destruction they caused was a feat.

The dust cleared off, revealing Roman and Lunar who had stun looks on their faces...they were both fine, strangely.
"Daaaad...."
Lunar whined
"Come on not fair...."
Roman complained.
Standing in their middle was Derrick.
He had appeared at the last second catching their blades with both hands, and taking the full blow of their attacks.
Yet he was completely unscratched.
"That attack was strong enough to cripple you both"
Derrick said as he put their weapons down.
"And I don't have the time to care to such injuries"
Roman and Lunar looked at each other, breathing hard.
They were spent, completely. The draw back finally taking it's hold.
They both dropped to the ground as pain gripped them.
"I guess we can continue later"
Roman breathed out.
Lunar faced him.
"It's a draw this time"
Derrick laughed loudly and sat beside them.
"When I'm done with you guys in the next five years, Avalon won't have any competition"
Roman jerked up but suddenly fell back down in pain
"Five years "
His eyes widen
"Yep. The academy takes in kids of fifteen years and above. And you're only ten"
Derrick explained.
"Yeah. That means I'm gonna have to wait for you till then. You really are a kid "
Lunar chuckled
Roman rolled his eyes.
"And also, I'm aware that you're able to absorb energy from beast crystals"
Derrick said.
Lunar eyes widened.
"He can do that?"
Roman raised a brow
"Isn't that a normal thing for beast masters?"
"Nope. It's impossible. A beast master can only absorb the spirit energy from the atmosphere around us. A danger beast also does the same. But when it becomes a foreign energy due to their animal nature"
Derrick explain.
"How are we not sure he's a beast "
Lunar said
"Lets kill him now"
He smirked reaching for his blade.
"Hey, chill. I'm perfectly normal "
Roman frowned.
Derrick laughed.
"Relax son. For safety of the future, keep that ability to yourself and make sure no one's around you when you absorb crystals"
Roman nodded, then looked at Derrick.
"How did you take our full attack head on without a scratch"
He asked
Derrick looked at him with his usual mysterious grin.
"I'm a Demi god "
Roman raised a brow
"What's a Demi god?"
Derrick's shoulder dropped.
"You have much to learn kid"
Lunar laughed.
