Chapter 25 THE TRIALS
Some Moments Ago.....
Five guards stood around the massive gates of the City, handling final preparations before changing their shifts.
They had already disperse the long line of crowd, now it was time for their break.
"Alright, let's close the gates for now!"
The first guard ordered, he was a Mid ranking knight, higher than the others.
The other low ranking knights nodded as they proceed, obviously drained from dealing with the annoying chatter of the people.
"I'm getting a booze after this."
Just as they were about to roll the massive metallic gates...
Whoooosh...
CLANG...
A long red katana suddenly flew out of nowhere and Impaled itself into the thick metal gate with a clang.
The guards jolted in shock and their training kicked in.
"Get in position, now!"
The Mid ranking knight ordered as he summoned his spirit weapon. The others followed suit as they got into a defensive position in front of the gates.
The knight looked at the direction the katana had come from.
He raised a brow.
"Kids?"
He was stunned to see two teenage boys walking towards their direction. One was taller with long purple hair, the other had long red hair with a squirrel on his shoulder.
"So sorry about that, you were about to lock the gates so I had to draw your attention"
Roman apologized as they near the guards.
He stretched his hands and the katana flew from the gate and landed on his hand.
"They're just Beast Nobles sir"
One of the knights whispered to the one in charge.
They let their tension drop a little.
"Who are you?"
The knight asked.
"Oh we came for Avalon academy, we would have been here earlier but my brother got us lost"
Roman pointed at Lunar.
"Hey, I was only following your pet squirrel cause it felt like it knows where it was going"
Lunar defended.
Fury squealed folded it's tiny arms and looked away .
The guards stared at them of a while before saying.
"You need a special permit before you allowed to enter the academy"
The knight said.
"Will this do?"
Lunar brought out a metal badge with the insignia of a wolf imprinted on it.
The guards suddenly choked with eyes widen.
"You.... you kids are from the, Devil's mountain?"
The guard whispered as if he was calling a forbidden name.
Sweats suddenly ran through the rest of the guards neck.
The knowledge of the Demi god, Derrick and his domain, the devil's mountain, was not a secret to anyone. It was famously known. Just that, people never returned from that place, so they are seen as dead.
"Yeah , we are"
Roman shrugged.
A strange silence reign...
The mid ranking knight snapped from his daze
"I'll show you to the academy, the rest of you can finish up"
The knight turned to the gated and walked in.
Roman and Lunar followed.
Roman was extremely excited, alas, after five years, he had made it to Avalon.
He paused at the entrance of the city and took in some breaths.
"I made it Mom, I told you I would"
He smiled, then entered the city.

Outside the City on a very tall hill, a castle came into view.
Sitting on his majestic throne in the throne room, a figure suddenly snapped his eyes open.
"Hmmm..."
The figure placed his hands under his jaws.
"That energy... it's feels, familiar "
The figure frowned deeply.

The knight had escorted Roman and Lunar through the city, and finally, they reached the academy.
"Sorry to interrupt you sir Zach!"
The knight bowed to his superior.
"This two came in late"
The knight pointed at the two handsome boys behind him, one had purple long hair, and the other had red long hair...with a red squirrel on his shoulder.
All eyes turned to them, stunned. The two new commers where charmingly gorgeous.
'Whoa..'
'who are those....
'are they princes from another kingdom.....
'they are gorgeous....
'great, more competition....
Sylver's eyes widened.
"Roman..."
She whispered.
The others heard.
They look at her, then back at the two boys, this time, paying attention to the one with red hair.
They're eyes widened in shock and disbelief.
Lan's shoulder dropped
"I'll be damned, the little kid?'
Bryon tensed, not believing his eyes.
"He really did show up"
Billy forgot to blink. He couldn't believe it, no way, he couldn't!
The little twerp wasn't so little anymore. In fact he was slightly taller than Billy and his body seems to glow with controlled strength.
Carl and Sarah stared at them.
"He's handsome, do you know them?"
Sarah asked looking at Sylver.
She didn't respond, eyes on Roman.
It took Sylver massive amounts of willpower not to rush forward.
She took a deep breath, relaxed her nerves....then smiled.
Lan looked at her.
"Damn guys, she's smiling "
He whispered.
The knight who escorted them walked towards sir Zach and whispered something in his ear.
Sir Zach's eye widened a little.
"Interesting"
The knight left.
Sir Zach faced them.
"I do not tolerate tardiness, but I'll pardon you today. Join the others"
"Right, yes sir"
They both moved to the other side of the group, avoiding the continuous stares from the others.
Well Lunar didn't mind, he kept waving and winking at most of the females.
Roman rolled his eyes at him.
A lot of eyes landed on Fury, the cute red squirrel was not enjoying the attention at all.
But strangely, it enjoyed a particular gaze.
Fury had the ability to sense feelings and intents, which was strange, considering that it was only at the advanced ranked. And added to that, it had proven that it had a very high level of intelligence.
Roman felt a tap on his head, it was Fury. It pointed it's tiny paws at a particular direction.
Roman followed, and he's eyes landed on a tall girl with silver hair.
He's eyes widened.
It was Sylver.
"Sylver.."
He whispered.
Sylver smiled and gave a little wave.
It didn't take him long to recognize his best friend, even if she had greatly changed. Infact, Roman had been scanning the and searching for her since he entered the city, yet his little pet beat him to it.
"I wonder how strong she's gotten"
He said.
Fury looked at him.
"Who's the girl? I caught you staring"
Lunar suddenly said.
"Remember the girl I told you about, that's her"
Roman replied.
Lunar nodded.
"Lucky you"
"Alright then, we proceed with the trial"
Sir Zach's voice caught their attention.
"Being a beast master doesn't always means you get to fight in the front line and awakened bigger spirit beasts.
No, it means having the heart to challenge yourself no matter what the situation..."
He paused for a while, staring at their faces
"Really, sir Barron taught us that if we can't fight at the front line, we can't call ourselves beast masters"
Lan whispered.
"And also.."
Sir Zach continued.
"Having a small spirit beast doesn't mean that you don't have any potential at all"
Sir Zach's eyes glowed a bright yellow, and his transcendent aura surged out of his body. A yellow eagle, the size of his head, formed and flew above, then landed on his arms.
"This is my spirit beast, an eagle. This has been it's size since the day I awakened "
Sir Zach smiled
"Yet I still rose through the ranks and here I am now. All spirit beast has its purpose and uses no matter the shape and size. And also , not all small spirit beast are as weak as the seem"
"Sir Barron taught us the bigger the spirit beast, the less useless you become "
Lan whispered
"Relax dude, all beast masters have their way of teaching based on what they've been through"
Bryon said.
"Sounds fair"
Sir Zach nodded at one of his companion. The knight nodded and walked to the far end of the court yard.
"Sir Grey here is of the Ascension rank and has a high affinity with the earth element"
Sir Grey stomped his foot on the ground and a large boulder formed from the marble floor.
"You will summon your spirit beasts and destroy the boulder. Trust me, its sturdier than it looks "
The circular boulder was large enough to encapsulate a man, and the density wasn't to laugh at.
"So, to prove my earlier point,"
Sir Zach's eyes landed on a particular someone in the crowd.
"Anya, why don't you give it a try"
All eyes turned to a particular girl at the very back of the court yard, leaning against a wall.
'is that really Anya..
'she is beautiful....
'she's the daughter of the Phoenix Fire Clan....
' I can't believe she's here with us..
'so the rumours are true, she's a Halfling..
Anya ignored the unnecessary comments as she walked forward with a stern face.
She was one of those lucky ones blessed with stunning beauty. She was tall with pristine white skin, with long pink hair and eyes. She wore a pink body fitted beast armor that looked like it was specially crafted for her, showing her athletic figure, from years of training and dedication.
Anya was a goddess amongst her peers, but what stood up more... two pink bunny like ears stood on her head, and they were attached to it.
"She's a beauty, are those bunny ears, real?"
Lan whispered to Carl.
"Yep. Don't tell me you haven't heard of Halflings"
Carl raised a brow.
"Nope"
Roman stared at Anya, mesmerized.
He had listened to Derrick talk about Halflings, but see one, and a beauty a that..
Fury squealed and tapped on his head.
"Hey, it's nothing like that. What do you know, you're just a squirrel"
Fury squealed and folded it's tiny arms, feeling offended.
"Plus, she kinda reminds me of Mom"
Anya stood beside sir Zach and he nodded, giving her some space.
Her body suddenly exploded with pink aura. She was there star Noble.
The aura surged upwards, and massive bunny rabbit appeared, towering above her.
The bunny's eyes glowed red, with a force, it kicked the ground and bolted upwards with speed.
Anya followed suit, she stomped her right leg on the ground, and a strange force shot her upwards.
Her spirit beast spinned and disappeared into her body. Her legs glowed brightly and she spun her body, landing a drop kick with her right heel on the boulder.
BANG!
BOOM..
The boulder exploded into bits without resistance.
"Damn, bunnies are cute and cuddly, but she's cute and deadly"
Lan whispered.
"Exactly my thoughts dude"
Carl nodded.
Sir Zach smiled with an approval.
"That's good"
Anya walked back to her position. She walked past Sylver and they both glanced at each other, non smiling.
"I think Sylver has a new twin"
Lan whispered.
Sylver glared at him.
Bryon chuckled.
"This will be fun...
