Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Containment, Control

Hoo—hah—

Hearing the Second Lieutenant's report, William couldn't help but take a few deep breaths.

Since the UBCS company landed in Athabasca, the atmosphere in the entire Command Center had been extremely oppressive.

After all, no one knew what they were about to face, and this was the first containment operation involving numerous deaths since Umbrella was founded.

The company's original intention was to expand around a private military force, and Andre had been training the UBCS and USS without interruption.

Every preparation made was for the sake of facing events like this.

If they failed, the consequences would be unimaginable.

But if they succeeded...

The dominance of the future would be completely in Umbrella's hands.

All the Technicians turned around, looking at their boss with expectant eyes.

As for Andre, he wore a smile and patted William on the shoulder.

Seeing this, William also suppressed his excitement, waved his hand, and smiled:

"Everyone, thank you for your hard work!

With your cooperation, the first containment operation has come to a perfect end!

With this combat data, our bargaining chips for negotiations with the United Nations have greatly increased, and Umbrella will stand at the top of the World.

Just as our company manifesto states, our business is life itself!

And just as our company logo signifies, we hold up a protective Umbrella for humanity!"

"Yes!"

"Haha!"

"Wahaha~!"

After hearing William's speech, everyone released their pent-up emotions.

Even the extremely serious Second Lieutenant just now let out a strange cheer.

After letting everyone relax a little, William waved his hand again, signaling for silence.

"Ahem!"

He cleared his throat and continued to the crowd: "The operation hasn't completely ended; the Soldiers on the front line are still waiting for the next instructions.

Colonel, you take charge of the command."

Having said that, a sense of exhaustion washed over William, and he sat back in his chair to rest.

Andre took over command and ordered:

"Second Lieutenant, notify Company A to collect the bodies, and have Captain Victor keep a close watch on that 'person,' waiting for the Technicians to arrive."

"Yes, Colonel."

The Second Lieutenant returned to his serious demeanor, turned around, and relayed the specific steps to the various Technicians.

And the various Technicians then assigned the orders to the UBCS squad units.

Half an hour later, in the town of Athabasca;

Large lighting equipment was set up on the streets, sweeping away the dark, silent, and terrifying atmosphere that existed before the operation began.

More than half of Company A were dealing with the zombie corpses, while others were guarding the perimeter of the town.

In the square in the center of the town.

Three Tyrants stood there, along with Captain Victor leading three squads of Soldiers, monitoring the 'person' they had surrounded in the center.

The person was 1.9 meters tall, dressed in a heavy black robe, and 'wearing' a long, slender, bird-beaked mask, looking like a medieval Doctor.

And he, or it, was SCP-049, the plague doctor.

The plague doctor remained silent, carrying his small black medical bag on his back, holding a notebook in his hand, observing the Tyrants, and occasionally making notes.

A UBCS, watching the plague doctor's strange behavior, walked to Captain Victor's side and asked quietly:

"Captain, is this guy even human?

Just now, while dealing with those zombies, someone saw him standing on the roof of a house observing the battle; it felt like those zombies were created by him.

He didn't even resist when we captured him; it's just too strange."

Captain Victor also looked at the plague doctor, shook his head, and said:

"I don't know. Besides, these things aren't for our armed department to worry about. Let those scientific lunatics in the technical department take over."

"Captain!"

At this moment, several more UBCS arrived at the central park, escorting dozens of townspeople.

A Sergeant said to Captain Victor: "This is all that's left of the survivors in the entire town."

Looking at the survivors of different ages, the oldest were in their fifties or sixties, and the youngest were only seven or eight years old.

The townspeople had smiles on their faces, a feeling of having survived a disaster; their expressions seemed to say: Finally, we're saved!

However, the masked UBCS present had cold eyes, without a trace of pity.

Captain Victor looked at the group of townspeople and said in a deep voice: "Sergeant, send some people to 'protect' them, and transfer them once the Technicians arrive."

"Yes, Captain."

After receiving the instructions, the Sergeant took his men and waited on the side, escorting the completely oblivious townspeople.

"Boom—boom—!" The sound of helicopter engines could be vaguely heard in the sky.

Before long, a large number of transport helicopters arrived over the town and landed slowly in a suitable open space.

The cabin doors opened, and groups of Technicians dressed in white hazmat suits walked out.

The Technicians moved large equipment crates, began setting up isolation tents, or started dealing with the zombie corpses.

And the person in charge walked up to Captain Victor and said indifferently:

"Captain, the company is preparing to buy this land and start building a western Base, and the boss wants your company to garrison this town.

(Then he turned and pointed to the CH-53E transport helicopter not far away)

The Colonel wants you to personally lead a squad of Soldiers, along with three T-103s, to guard the target and deliver it to Containment Center No. 1.

We will conduct a comprehensive disinfection and cleanup of this town, and your company will need to cooperate with our operations.

As for the Canada military, leave it to the company's public relations department."

"Alright, I understand." Captain Victor had no questions.

Then he turned, extended his left hand, waved it in front of him, and ordered: "First Platoon, First Squad, contain the target."

"Yes, Captain."

The UBCS, having received the order, came before the plague doctor, and the one in the lead said to him:

"Sir, please come with us. Do not make any resistant movements, otherwise, we will take forced measures against you."

The plague doctor, who was taking notes, closed his notebook and put it into his bag after hearing the UBCS's words.

He looked at the UBCS surrounding him, still silent, but nodded slightly, indicating his agreement to cooperate.

Seeing this, the UBCS Soldiers, who were gripping their weapons tightly, relaxed a bit, then took the plague doctor and boarded the CH-53E that had landed in the central square.

Captain Victor then walked up to the three Tyrants and ordered: "You three come with us too."

The Tyrants, having received the instruction, turned mechanically and followed Captain Victor onto the transport helicopter.

"Command Center, this is Ego-7, the cargo is ready, requesting to proceed to Containment Center No. 1."

"This is Command Center, request approved."

"Received."

After reporting the progress to Troy Base, the CH-53 pilot quickly took off, flying northward and disappearing from view.

The dozens of townspeople were taken into tents by the UBCS for disinfection and were transported away by another CH-53, also flying to the northern Containment Center.

Thus, Umbrella completed its first containment operation.

But from now on, nights like this would become the daily life of Umbrella Soldiers.

There could be no relaxation.
