Chapter 12 - Chapter Eleven: Meeting Parents

Herman was shocked beyond words. His lips parted in sheer disbelief.

His gaze was firmly fixed on Rena, catching the melancholic look on her face.

He didn't want to believe this, no.

But he knew Rena would never joke, especially with something like this.

But how could this happen? He had strongly believed Rena was a virgin, that was why he did never touched her.

Now he felt like a clown, a fool who had been secretly cuckolded.

His lips tightly pressed together and this time he didn't stop himself from snarling.

"How could you not tell me this beforehand? Do you consider me a fool?" His voice was a little loud.

Rena lowered her head, mumbling out. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" His laughter was gloomy, showing forth his rage. "Is that supposed to soothe me?"

 "Herman..."

"Rena, I never would have imagined you to be such a loose woman."

Rena was stunned by his words. Her body shook slightly and her fists clenched.

The feeling of being brutally criticized enveloped her and the fact it came from Herman, someone she loved chilled her spine.

Her paled flesh turned even paler.

 "I'm not."

She surely wasn't.

She had been affected by alcohol then or else she absolutely wouldn't have. Besides Lester was her first love, his statement quite was unfounded, mercilessly so.

"You kept me in the dark, you lead me on and made me propose to you, how could you?" Herman's eyes were red.

Not from sadness but from an apparent anger.

Rena felt appalled at his behaviour.

The look in his eyes... For a moment, she felt he did want to hit her.

"Do you..." She gnashed her teeth. "Do you want to break up with me?"

Before coming, she had already prepared for this outcome.

The only thing she feared was being judged but that had happened already.

Now she didn't want to face anymore vilification.

Although she loved Herman, she won't persist on having him. If he want to end the relationship, it would be best if they call it quit now.

Herman was silent, speechless.

He didn't expect Rena to bring up breakup, the resolute look in her eyes showed she would agree if he wants.

Herman was static.

For once he had expected her to cry profusely to him, beg for forgiveness or some sort but she did none.

She was yet still, holding up to her self esteem.

Her eyes were dull, her colorless face made her beauty delicate, arousing even the toughest man's pity. Her composure whether forced or not gave off a certain allure which made others dazed and spellbound.

Herman was struck. It took him a while to come to his senses.

He was conflicted.

If he had known Rena was barren from the start, he wouldn't have been too involved with her. Now this confession of hers have totally ruined his plans for the future.

He was vexed, frustrated.

But how could he leave her? Such beauty was one he coveted and he was bound to possess it for himself.

He gritted his teeth, didn't say a word and left.

Rena was a bit baffled at his abrupt departure but she made no effort to chase after him.

She heaved a breath, her chest feeling a little stuffed.

Indeed deep inside, she was not feeling well.

Her heart rate was slightly high and her head was a bit heavy.

While recalling the past, her body did feel pained. Her heart hurt the most, it seemed it would take a while to calm down.

She called for the waiter opting to pay for the meal but was informed Herman had paid before leaving.

She felt quite relieved.

The total dishes was about half of salary's worth, it would sting to spend that out of her savings.

She left the restaurant but found no trace of Herman. He had truly left.

She didn't blame him. His anger wasn't groundless and he ostensibly wasn't that much mad at her. He didn't even break up.

She felt faintly pleased inside.

Of course she didn't want their relationship to end but she didn't want to force him either.

It would be best for him to have a thought and give her a firm answer. She didn't want to be hopeful in fear of having her disappointment heighten.

She stepped onto the road. It was nearly 11pm and the cars were few. Taxis were somewhat difficult to find at this hour so she had to opt for an Uber.

Just as she was about to seek for one, a car stopped before her.

Herman's face peeked out from his window. His phiz was yet distorted, with obvious lines of anger on it.

He didn't open the car door. He spoke with an air of seriousness.

"We wouldn't break up. I proposed to you before and whether or not you can bear a child, am still solemn about marriage."

Rena was shocked. "What are you saying?"

She was in disbelief.

Even though she hoped for these words, she knew there was a higher chance she did be gutted.

After all Herman was a man and the heir to the Ross family fortune. How could he be at peace without successors?

Rena's mind was in turmoil.

Seeing her complex countenances, Herman was secretly complacent.

He went out of the car, his earlier fury shoved obscure and kept out of sight.

He smiled. "I've thought of it. I love you, so what does anything else matter? I was only angry because you kept it away from me but now I have seen through reasons. Rena, you won't want to back off from this relationship, right?"

"This..." Rena was still astounded. She asked. "Are you serious?"

"I am." His face was a little stiff but there was no sign he was telling any fibs.

Rena felt a stir in her heart.

Infact since the day she got the report from the clinic, she had been certain no one would want to go further with her.

When she got into a relationship with Herman, she was a little nervous her past would create an edge between them so she deliberately kept it hidden.

But now he knows and yet wants to proceed with her, who wouldn't be moved in this situation?

Herman resumed. "During the weekend, we should go visit your parents. It's about time you introduce me to them. You already met mine, I should meet yours already."

Rena was floored. "This soon?"

It was like he was about discussing marriage plans.

"Why not now?" He held her hands intimately. "I told you Rena, am really serious about you."

Rena felt delight.

It was like all of her gloom vanished, forgotten.

Although she didn't want to meet her family. Infact since the last time she met them at the funeral years ago, she had not seen any of them again.

She would not have been in contact with them if not for the relative she had accidentally bumped into months ago.

But since this was Herman's request, she would not disagree. After all it shows his goodwill.

He checked his wristwatch. "It's currently 11pm. You should call for an Uber now and go home."

Rena was a bit puzzled.

He explained gently. "I need to go straight home, my family called. I might not have the chance to drive you."

"It's okay." She didn't notice the insincerity in his voice.

He kissed her and went into his car. The moment he drove off, the lights in his eyes dimmed, his smile rapidly faded, revealing quite a ferocious visage.
