Chapter 6 - A Walk Under the Moon

The bonfire continued burning brightly in the woods outside Mystic Falls.

Music echoed between the trees while students laughed and talked around the fire.

But away from the noise…

Two figures slowly walked deeper into the quiet forest.

Elena Gilbert and Alexander Nightshade.

The cool night breeze moved gently through the trees.

Moonlight filtered through the branches, lighting the narrow path.

For a moment…

Neither of them spoke.

Elena walked beside him with her hands folded in front of her.

She wasn't sure why she had followed him away from the party.

Maybe she just needed some quiet.

Or maybe…

She simply wanted to spend time with him.

Alexander glanced at her calmly.

He could hear her heartbeat clearly.

Soft.

Steady.

But slightly faster than normal.

'She's nervous.'

Elena finally broke the silence.

"You don't seem like someone who enjoys parties."

Alexander smiled faintly.

"I've attended far more extravagant gatherings."

Elena laughed softly.

"Somehow I believe that."

They continued walking slowly.

The forest around them was peaceful.

Crickets chirped in the distance.

The moon illuminated the clearing ahead.

Elena looked up at the sky.

Her expression slowly became more serious.

"I used to come here with my parents."

Alexander quietly listened.

"Before the accident."

Her voice became softer.

Alexander already knew about the tragedy.

But he didn't interrupt.

Elena took a slow breath.

"After they died… everything felt different."

She looked down slightly.

"Mystic Falls used to feel safe."

Then she looked at him again.

"Now it just feels strange sometimes."

Alexander watched her quietly.

There was sadness in her eyes.

A deep loneliness.

He had seen that emotion many times throughout his long existence.

Humans losing the people they loved.

Alexander spoke calmly.

"Loss changes people."

Elena nodded slightly.

"Yeah."

For a moment they stood silently beneath the moonlight.

Then Elena smiled faintly.

"Sorry… I didn't mean to make things depressing."

Alexander shook his head.

"You didn't."

He looked up toward the sky.

"Pain is part of life."

Elena studied his expression.

Something about the way he spoke felt… experienced.

Almost as if he had lived through much more than someone his age should have.

She tilted her head slightly.

"You talk like someone much older."

Alexander smiled faintly.

"Maybe I am."

Elena laughed again.

But for a brief moment…

She wondered if he was serious.

Suddenly…

Alexander's eyes shifted toward the darkness between the trees.

His senses had detected someone.

A familiar vampire presence.

Watching them.

Hidden in the shadows.

It was Damon Salvatore.

Damon leaned against a tree silently, observing the two of them.

His sharp eyes focused on Alexander.

'You're definitely not human.'

Alexander pretended not to notice him.

There was no need to expose Damon.

At least not yet.

Meanwhile Elena continued speaking.

"Mystic Falls can be strange sometimes."

Alexander looked at her.

"Strange how?"

Elena shrugged slightly.

"Hard to explain… but sometimes it feels like there are secrets everywhere."

Alexander smiled faintly.

"Every town has secrets."

Elena looked at him again.

The moonlight reflected in his golden eyes.

For a brief moment…

Her breath caught.

He really was incredibly handsome.

She quickly looked away.

"You really are mysterious."

Alexander chuckled softly.

"Is that a bad thing?"

Elena smiled.

"Not necessarily."

Behind the trees, Damon watched the interaction with interest.

But something bothered him.

He couldn't hear Alexander's heartbeat.

Not even faintly.

Damon frowned slightly.

'What the hell are you?'

Meanwhile…

Back near the bonfire, Bonnie Bennett suddenly felt a strong surge of supernatural energy.

She turned toward the forest path.

Her expression became serious.

"Elena…"

Caroline looked confused.

Caroline Forbes crossed her arms.

"What about her?"

Bonnie stared into the dark woods.

Her witch instincts were screaming again.

And she knew exactly why.

Alexander Nightshade.

Something about him was not normal.

Not vampire.

Not werewolf.

Something far more powerful.

And Bonnie Bennett was starting to realize…

Mystic Falls had just gained a new supernatural mystery.
