The moon hung high above the quiet forest outside Mystic Falls.
The sounds of the bonfire party were distant now.
Laughter and music faded as the night grew calmer.
On the narrow forest path, Elena Gilbert and Alexander Nightshade slowly walked back toward the clearing.
Elena looked much more relaxed now.
Talking with him had somehow made the heavy thoughts in her mind lighter.
She glanced at him again.
Alexander walked calmly beside her, hands in his pockets, completely at ease.
Elena smiled slightly.
"You know… you're very different from most guys here."
Alexander looked at her.
"Different how?"
Elena thought for a moment.
"You're calm."
She laughed softly.
"Most guys at these parties try too hard to impress people."
Alexander chuckled quietly.
"Impressing people is rarely worth the effort."
Elena smiled.
There was something comforting about the way he spoke.
But before she could say anything else…
A voice suddenly came from the darkness ahead.
"Well well…"
Elena stopped walking.
Alexander remained completely calm.
Stepping out from behind a tree was Damon Salvatore.
His usual confident smirk was on his face.
But his eyes were sharp and observant.
Elena looked surprised.
"Damon?"
Damon shrugged casually.
"Just enjoying the night."
His gaze slowly shifted toward Alexander.
"And meeting new people."
Alexander met his gaze calmly.
The air between them suddenly felt tense.
Damon stepped closer.
"Alexander Nightshade."
He tilted his head slightly.
"Interesting name."
Alexander smiled faintly.
"Thank you."
Damon circled around him slowly.
Like a predator studying prey.
But something about Alexander felt… wrong.
No heartbeat.
No scent of human blood.
No supernatural signature he could recognize.
Damon stopped directly in front of him.
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"So tell me…"
His smile returned.
"What exactly are you?"
Elena looked confused.
"Damon, what kind of question is that?"
Alexander simply looked at Damon.
His golden eyes reflected the moonlight.
For a brief moment…
Something ancient flashed within them.
Then he answered calmly.
"A transfer student."
Damon laughed softly.
"Right."
But he didn't believe that for a second.
Damon leaned slightly closer to Alexander.
Lowering his voice.
"You don't have a heartbeat."
Elena froze.
"What?"
Alexander looked completely unfazed.
"Neither do you."
Damon's smile slowly disappeared.
For a brief second…
The playful atmosphere vanished.
Two predators were now staring at each other.
Elena looked between them nervously.
"Okay… this is getting weird."
Damon suddenly chuckled again.
He stepped back casually.
"Relax."
He looked at Elena.
"Just joking around."
But his eyes returned to Alexander.
The warning inside them was clear.
'I'm watching you.'
Alexander simply smiled slightly.
'You can try.'
Elena sighed.
"You two are strange."
Damon laughed.
"That's Mystic Falls for you."
He turned and began walking back toward the bonfire.
But before leaving, he glanced over his shoulder.
"Enjoy the party."
Then he disappeared into the trees.
Silence returned to the forest path.
Elena looked at Alexander.
"Damon can be… difficult sometimes."
Alexander nodded slightly.
"I noticed."
Elena sighed.
"But he's not a bad person."
Alexander didn't respond.
He knew far too much about Damon Salvatore already.
Meanwhile…
Back near the bonfire, Bonnie Bennett stood quietly.
Her eyes were focused on the dark forest path.
Her witch instincts were still reacting strongly.
Beside her, Caroline Forbes noticed her expression.
"Bonnie? What's wrong?"
Bonnie hesitated.
Then she spoke softly.
"That new guy…"
Caroline raised an eyebrow.
"Alexander?"
Bonnie nodded slowly.
Her voice was serious.
"There's something very powerful about him."
Caroline laughed.
"Well yeah. He's powerful in the looks department."
Bonnie shook her head slightly.
"No… I mean something else."
She stared toward the forest again.
Her instincts told her something important.
Something ancient had arrived in Mystic Falls.
And his name was Alexander Nightshade.
