Chapter 28 - Bonnie’s Uneasy Discovery

Night still covered Mystic Falls.

The town had fallen quiet again after another long day.

But inside the Bennett house, one room was still lit.

Candles flickered softly across a wooden desk.

Ancient books were spread open.

Symbols and notes filled several pages.

And sitting in the middle of all of it…

Was Bonnie Bennett.

Her brow was furrowed as she studied the old pages in front of her.

The strange feeling she kept sensing around Alexander Nightshade wouldn't leave her mind.

Ever since the party.

Ever since she had stood close to him.

That overwhelming supernatural pressure had felt unlike anything she had experienced before.

Not vampire.

Not werewolf.

Not even like the magic of witches.

Bonnie whispered quietly.

"What are you?"

She flipped another page in the old book.

Most of the text described ancient supernatural creatures.

But none of them matched what she had sensed.

Bonnie leaned back in her chair.

Frustration creeping into her thoughts.

'There has to be something…'

Then suddenly—

The candle flames flickered violently.

Bonnie froze.

Her eyes widened slightly.

That same supernatural presence.

It was close.

Very close.

Elsewhere in town…

Alexander stood quietly outside the Mystic Falls Grill.

The warm light from inside spilled across the street.

Several people laughed and talked inside the building.

But Alexander wasn't interested in going inside tonight.

Instead he leaned casually against the brick wall beside the entrance.

His golden eyes thoughtful.

'Someone is trying to sense me.'

He could feel it clearly.

Witch magic.

Bonnie Bennett.

Alexander smiled faintly.

'Curious girl.'

Back inside Bonnie's room…

Her hands hovered above the table as she focused her magic.

A faint glow formed between her fingers.

Her breathing slowed.

She whispered softly.

"Show me the truth…"

The room suddenly grew colder.

The candle flames stretched unnaturally.

Then—

Bonnie saw it.

A brief vision.

Darkness.

Endless darkness.

A pair of glowing golden eyes appearing in the void.

Ancient power swirling around them.

Three different supernatural energies merging together.

Vampire.

Werewolf.

And something else.

Something deeper.

Something older.

The pressure of that presence became overwhelming.

Bonnie gasped.

Her vision snapped back to reality.

The candles blew out instantly.

Leaving the room in darkness.

Bonnie grabbed the edge of the table.

Her heart racing.

"That wasn't…"

She shook her head.

Trying to understand what she had just seen.

Her voice trembled slightly.

"That wasn't just a hybrid…"

The energy she had sensed felt far more complex.

More powerful.

Bonnie whispered slowly.

"What are you hiding, Alexander?"

At that exact moment…

Across town…

Alexander suddenly looked toward the direction of Bonnie's house.

He had felt her magic reach him.

He chuckled softly.

'She saw something.'

Not everything.

But enough to make her curious.

Alexander pushed himself away from the wall.

Preparing to walk home.

But before he could move—

Someone appeared beside him.

With vampire speed.

Rebekah Mikaelson.

She leaned casually against the wall next to him.

Looking very pleased with herself.

"You really don't sleep much, do you?"

Alexander glanced at her.

"Neither do you."

Rebekah smiled.

"I'm an Original vampire."

Alexander nodded slightly.

"Good point."

For a moment they simply stood there.

Watching the quiet street.

Then Rebekah suddenly asked:

"Have you noticed something funny?"

Alexander looked at her.

"What?"

She smirked slightly.

"Three different women in this town are already obsessed with you."

Alexander raised an eyebrow.

"That's an exaggeration."

Rebekah laughed softly.

"Is it?"

She began counting on her fingers.

"Elena Gilbert…"

"Katherine Pierce…"

Then she pointed at herself.

"And me."

Alexander looked amused.

'She's not wrong.'

Rebekah leaned closer.

Her blue eyes playful.

"So tell me something honestly…"

Alexander waited.

She smiled slightly.

"Which one do you like most?"

Alexander thought about the question.

Then answered calmly.

"I haven't decided yet."

Rebekah laughed again.

"Good answer."

Across the street…

Someone else had just arrived.

Damon Salvatore.

He had been heading toward the Grill.

But the moment he saw Alexander standing with Rebekah Mikaelson…

He stopped.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Well that's new."

Damon muttered to himself.

The situation in Mystic Falls was becoming more complicated by the day.

And somehow…

Alexander Nightshade seemed to be at the center of all of it.

Meanwhile…

Inside her bedroom…

Elena Gilbert sat on her bed staring at her phone.

But she wasn't texting anyone.

Her thoughts kept drifting back to one person.

Alexander.

She sighed quietly.

"Why can't I stop thinking about him?"

Elena didn't know it yet.

But soon…

She would see Alexander standing with one of the most dangerous vampires in the world.

Rebekah Mikaelson.

And that moment would make her feelings impossible to ignore.
