Chapter 38 - The Witch’s Discovery

Morning arrived in Mystic Falls.

But peace didn't come with it.

Sunlight spread across the town, soft and warm—

Yet beneath it, tension lingered.

Unseen.

Unresolved.

Inside the Gilbert house, Elena Gilbert sat at the kitchen table, staring into her coffee.

She hadn't slept much.

Every time she closed her eyes—

She saw it again.

Klaus attacking.

Alexander stopping him.

Like it was nothing.

Across town—

Another mind was just as occupied.

But far less calm.

Inside the Bennett house, Bonnie Bennett sat in the center of her room.

Candles surrounded her.

Ancient grimoires lay open across the floor.

The air felt thick with magic.

Her hands glowed faintly.

Energy gathering.

Focusing.

"Reveal what hides in shadow…" she whispered.

The candles flickered violently.

A sudden wind rushed through the room—

Even though the windows were closed.

Her magic surged.

Reaching.

Searching.

For one thing.

One presence.

Alexander.

The moment her magic touched that thought—

Everything collapsed.

The candles exploded outward.

Flames extinguished instantly.

The room plunged into darkness.

Bonnie gasped.

Her eyes snapped open.

Her breath uneven.

"What… was that?"

She had done readings before.

On vampires.

On werewolves.

Even on ancient witches.

But this—

Felt wrong.

Not blocked.

Not resisted.

Rejected.

Like her magic wasn't allowed to exist there.

Her hands trembled slightly as she reached for an old grimoire.

One of the oldest in her collection.

Nearly three hundred years old.

She flipped through the pages quickly.

Searching.

Desperate now.

Then—

She froze.

A page marked with ancient Bennett runes.

A warning.

Bonnie swallowed before reading aloud.

"There are beings older than the first vampire…"

Her voice lowered.

"Creatures who walk among immortals… yet do not belong to them."

Her heart began to race.

She read the final line.

Slowly.

Carefully.

"If you encounter one whose presence silences magic…"

A pause.

Then—

"Do not provoke it."

Silence filled the room.

Bonnie closed the book slowly.

Her instincts screamed the truth before her mind accepted it.

It's him.

Meanwhile—

Inside the Mystic Grill—

The atmosphere was far more casual.

Damon Salvatore sat at the bar, drink in hand.

Relaxed.

Amused.

Stefan Salvatore stood beside him.

Far less relaxed.

"You shouldn't have told Klaus," Stefan said.

Damon shrugged.

"He was going to find out anyway."

"And now?" Stefan pressed.

Damon smirked.

"Now we watch."

Stefan frowned.

"Klaus doesn't 'watch.' He acts."

Damon leaned back slightly.

"Then maybe he'll finally meet something that doesn't bend."

At that moment—

The door opened.

Both brothers turned.

And there he was.

Alexander.

Walking in like it was any normal day.

Damon raised an eyebrow.

"Well, speak of the mysterious problem."

Alexander sat beside him.

"Good morning."

Stefan nodded politely.

"Morning."

Damon leaned closer.

"So… how was your night?"

Alexander considered briefly.

"Uneventful."

Damon stared at him.

"You froze Klaus Mikaelson."

Alexander tilted his head.

"Did he complain?"

Damon blinked.

Then laughed.

"You're unreal."

Before they could continue—

The door opened again.

Bonnie entered.

Her eyes scanned the room immediately—

Until they found him.

The moment she saw Alexander—

Her magic reacted.

Sharp.

Immediate.

She froze mid-step.

Her breathing slowed.

Her instincts screamed one word—

Danger.

Alexander noticed.

Of course he did.

Their eyes met.

Across the room.

Silence.

Bonnie walked forward slowly.

Controlled.

Focused.

Damon glanced between them.

"Okay… this looks serious."

Stefan straightened slightly.

Concerned.

Bonnie stopped in front of Alexander.

Her voice low.

Steady.

"We need to talk."

Damon leaned back.

"About?"

Bonnie didn't look away.

"About what you really are."

The air shifted.

Damon's smirk faded.

Stefan tensed.

And Alexander—

Simply smiled.
